Fireworks with Pentax Q

Hello, does anyone have any tips for this Q and MILC/dSLR newbie on capturing some nice shots of fireworks tomorrow night with the Q, using just the 01 standard prime lens? I don't have any new lenses yet.

Tripod is a must. If you're not confident in Manual mode, shoot in Tv mode. Make sure you keep your ISO low to avoid noise. You'll also want 5+ second exposures if you want to burn in all the trails.

Thank you, geomez. No other way around a tripod? I don't have one yet.

This a copy of my post in the fireworks info page.
I used a tripod.

First Independence Day show around my area this weekend.
Was able to set the Pentax Q with 03 Fisheye about 400 feet from the launch pads with interval shooting mode for unattended operation.
Each shot is result of a couple of frames stacked with Combine ZP.
2 sec (max on Q with the Toy lenses) ISO 125 (lowest on Q) f5.6 (fixed on the 03)

Those are beautiful, Larry. I won't be able to pull any off that spectacular at this stage. I only have my 01 lens and no tripod. Whatever I capture is going to evolve into something extremely abstract after I edit. My future goal is the minimal editing the better, but I'm not to that point yet.

If you can brace the camera against a post or some other solid item you can get a few steady images. A car doesn't really count as it's bouncier than most street signs or other items.

Tripod is a must.
you can spend 5 bucks on a mini-tripod, still much better than putting it on any surface.

Thrift stores, pawn shops, walmart...hit them all up to see if there is a cheap tripod out there. Make sure it has a quick release plate or the 1/4 lug to go into the bottom of the camera if it is second hand. if not a bag of rice would work, you could kind of karate chop a little cradle into the middle of it and work to point it up at the sky where the fireworks will explode. 2 second timer for pushing the shutter release. Voila.
