Seriously funny. Sad about the lens IQ, but funny video.

Here are some ideas;
Maybe they lost their other Q body cap?
Maybe the autofocus on the Q is too slow for them?
Maybe they've found a way to "upload to instagram" their Q images with an Eye-Fi card, so "worse IQ than a cameraphone" is expected?

Honestly, why keep a camera like the Q with a bodycap instead of a lens mounted? In which situation do you want/need to put on the body cap, so itīs better to have a body cap that can take pictures?

You can always use hyperfocal distance and/or stop down the lens you already have

Are there any pinhole designs that can focus farther away than the 6 ft this one requires?

The Olympus model is a fixed f8 with hyperfocal distance that allows for "acceptable" imaging from approximately 3.1 feet to infinity according to reviews.

Let's see...the Olympus lens is $49 and the Penax is $79,
the Oly is f8 the Pentax f9,
the Oly is 30mm equivalent and the Pentax is 53mm,
the Oly is compatible with manual focusing using a lever and capable of close-up shooting as close as 30 cm and out to infinity, the Pentax only has a focusing range of approximately 0.7-2m.

Hmmm.......

Yeah, the only thing I like of what I've seen of this lens so far is your video.

Is that price for real? I have the Oly 15mm bodycap, and honestly, in good light outdoors I'll put it on quite often, it is decent, easy to use, and even has a bit of focus play. For $49 it is fun to have in my bag, and makes the camera easier to pack. $49 was a little steep, but worth it.

the Q body cap though? Man that thing is laughable at that price. I jokingly commented before the olympus came out that they could make a splash by including as the actual body cap with their cameras. Frankly for the output the Q bodycap lens appears to have, Pentax should probably do that just to save face.

Two questions:

1. So what are all the contacts on the lens for if it has no focus or aperture? Just lens ID?

2. How come it took them so long to work on this?

It has an aperture. Fixed, but itīs there. So the contacts transmit the aperture, ID and focal length for the SR system, at least.

Why would they spend time in something like this?

Not all of us wear cargo pants, you know. Some of us like to carry their Qs in shirt pockets, or light jacket pockets. Even with the 01 lens mounted, that makes for a bulky package. Every now and then, it'd be nice to be able to take the Q out of your pocket and just use it like a p&s, which you can't do if you're carrying the body (with plain cap) in one pocket, and the lens(es) in the other, as I do. That's why they bothered to do this. And how do you know how much time and effort Pentax put into developing this? If the verdict is correct, the answer may well be: "Not very much". I think I'll wait for a few user reviews before passing judgment. The Q's previously been well and truly worked over by several people in PF who didn't appreciate its value, along with some other products, like the DA18-135, for example. Need I say more?
