Low Light Focusing Problems?

My Q is brand new to me, having used a Canon S1IS before, and prior to that a Nikon FE2 SLR.

For some reason, under certain lower light situations the camera will not focus.

I just wonder if I have set up something wrong with my set up of this camera.

I certainly appreciate any insights you can give me.

Depending on the conditions, the camera can struggle when it's dark. Make sure whatever you're trying to focus on has plenty of contrast. Also, make sure the AF assist beam is enabled.

Have you installed the latest firmware? Updating the camera will do wonders.

Hi Farsighted,

1st of all, Welcome to the Q forum!!!!

I agree with VisDark. Updating the firmware for both the camera body and the 01 and 02 lenses can make a remarkable difference in the performance of the camera's AF system and your enjoyment of the Q.

+2 to the firmware update.
Heaven and Earth difference.

Besides that, make sure you focus on an area with contrast.
Also, try to use the larger focus box (that will allow the camera to look for a larger area for contrast to focus on)
