Q 06 15-45: a dodgy lens?

I was thinking of adding 06 15-45 to my line-up, but I am somewhat worried by what I have read in this thread:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-q/226685-defective-06-a.html

Are there any others who are having problems with this lens?

Dom

It has been a solid, reliable performer for me. I have had two copies of the lens since I made the mistake of selling all my Q equipment last winter only to regret the decision and buy replacements a few weeks later. The 06 has excellent image quality and has given me no problems at all. Any consumer product will have occasional issues individual examples but I have heard of very few problems with this lens.

Mine broke after a few months, no focusing at all, but before that it was fine. The replacement (I guess it's too cheap to be worth repairing) also works fine. I don't know how many they've sold, but certainly enough to expect a few to be bad. And it seems they break quickly, so as long as you buy where you get warranty I don't see a problem.

(The focus ring sucks though, on all copies.)

Hmmm... I thought an 06 would be a worthy addition to my Q kit, but if they're prone to breakage, perhaps not. $250 is too much to drop on a lens that might only last a few months.

I still don't have my 06 back, it seems Pentax is moving a warehouse but they say they are replacing mine. I would buy one again, the zoom range and IQ on a small body is great.

Haven't had any issues to report with mine, it is a very good lens with wonderful IQ.
Focus ring was a bit touchy until I added shim as per instructions in this thread https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-q/210797-06-lens.html

Over 3 months, got the 06 in mid June and was able to use it (at the long end) for a week, then 2 trips to service. Now it is scheduled for replacement pending a Pentax warehouse move that could take one to two more weeks. All summer without my birthday lens. Oh well I was able to play with my new K30

I've had my 06 for a couple of months and haven't had any problems. I've been really impressed with the image quality also and I use it quite a bit.

After which it will still be under warranty and you'll get a new one. Which is why I recommend only buying it from a real store (not some random dude on ebay).

Hi all,

I just received my 06 telephoto lense today. The focus sound much louder than the 01 and 02 lenses. The focusing ring feels quite loose when turning compared to the 01 and 02 lense as well. Is this normal? or I have an issue with my lense?

Sho nuff... But: 1) How long is the warranty? and: 2) What if it konks right after the warranty expires?

I guess a good thing to know would be how many bad copies of the 06 are there vs. the good. Judging from the reports of bad 06 copies here on the forum, the defective ratio looks a little high compared to other Q lenses.

I haven't noticed that my 06 is any louder.
As for the focus ring that is common issue.
See this thread for a DIY fix https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-q/210797-06-lens.html

The ownership ratio of the 06 is significantly lower than other lenses.
I would not let the report of a few duds put you off buying one.

It's making this buzzing noise when its trying to focus and AF seems to hunt for a bit at the wide end of the lense. The 45mm end of the lense seems fine.
The buzzing noise i could get used to if that is normal. If not, I'm thinking bout returning the lense and get the store to send me another copy.
