Why isn't the 01 prime available separately?

Can't help but wonder... It seems like enough of us would buy it if it were available. Anyone know?

At least some stores sells unboxed ones.

Ah... Didn't know it had become available separately. The £69.00 ($110 USD) deal from SRS Microsystems looks pretty good, but shipping to the US is probably steep.

AFAIK it's only available separately in Japan or via special order elsewhere. I think this might be because the number of Q users outside of Japan is very very small.

As explained on the Q Users' Call last April, outside Japan there wasn't enough production allocated sell the 01 freestanding. It was thought the Q/01 kit would be the premium kit and the 02 or 06 could be added separately. The Q was not initially well received here - and only became cultish when the liquidation prices hit. Those kits were almost universally 02 kits.

RIAC did attempt to stock some 01's at the Webstore but it took apparently quite some effort to get them

My order from the Pentax Webstore took about a week to arrive. Maybe lead time is longer now? Might be worth a call.

I think if you put the order in your cart, then cancel, a pop-up invites you to place the order with zero shipping cost. Did for me anyway.

I just checked. The 01 lens still is listed, and I was able to place in cart (didn't buy a second copy though - the first one is working just fine)

01 Lens is available in the U.S. from the Pentax Webstore.

Jim told us he really had to work to get that inventory (then - it was last April).

Adorama sells them. I got mine from Japan though as it was a bit cheaper overall.
