Looks as if it's going to cost around 399 in the UK! Ah well....... Too rich for me. I already have K-mount and F-mount mouths to feed.

Yikes. Seems like a pricey little bugger. Press release states $499 suggested, hopefully street price will be much less. I still want it.

I was looking forward to this. But I'm not paying $500!

Sounds like an impressive design, but if the max aperture range is f3.5-4 as the rumors reported, IMO, a lot of people will not be impressed, regardless of IQ.

It should be noted that aspherical lens elements are difficult and expensive to make, and two ED elements + an additional super low dispersion element further add significantly to the materials expense in this lens, so a relatively high price is justifiable, but my prediction is that price will be the primary objection to this lens, overshadowing optical quality. It should also be noted that aspherical lenses are usually used to make the lens more compact, and with a 49mm filter, this lens is pretty fat for the Q system, So I'm guessing that it would have to be significantly bigger (and even more expensive) to have a faster max aperture range. I'm guessing that they pushed the ultra wide zoom ahead of a wide prime because they felt that a zoom would find a wider audience, but I think a relatively fast wide prime (possibly with an accessory matching OVF) would have been more well received.

Personally, I'll buy this lens, but I'm in no hurry since I'm not much of a wide shooter -- the 02 and 03 FE fill my wide needs adequately at this time. When they officially announce the Macro Tele, I'll put my money down right away. . .

These most recent lens announcements kind of make me want to consider switching to another brands. It is starting to look like a may never get a fast, wide prime for the Q, or any fast prime between 50mm and 200mm for reasonable prices. No 85mm prime, etc.

I am excited by this lens. Afraid that all Q lenses were going to be limited to a 40.5 max filter size. The 08 49mm filter size proves plans for the Q system are much more daring. Go Ricoh go.
thanks
barondla

The Q is even going to be more fun.

Sadly, at 429, it's off my radar for the coming year. But I shall probably succumb to its charms at some point.

It's a 1.55x zoom so I suppose they had a priority on high image quality instead of a larger zoom range.........

Lens looks pretty good but I don't think any Q lenses should be $500 -- $350 would seem a lot more fair, maybe $300 street price. You can get a pretty decent APS-C Sigma 10-20 with a heck of a lot more glass for only $429.
