This looks extremely promising. Since the Q has quickly become my system of choice I guess it is time again to sell some more of the big guns.

Lens looks pretty good but I don't think any Q lenses should be $500 -- $350 would seem a lot more fair, maybe $300 street price. You can get a pretty decent APS-C Sigma 10-20 with a heck of a lot more glass for only $429.
I already have one of those. I never use it, because it's too big. Amount of glass only puts a lowest price limit on a lens, never an upper one.

Way too expensive imo. For that price this better be the best performing lens for the system hands down. I even feel like $300 for the 06 zoom is overpriced considering the flimsy focus ring. Try harder Ricoh / Pentax.

I agree that this lens is too expensive, especially since the hood is not included. However, there is currently no advanced compact that has a wide-angle zoom capability, so it adds to the Q's uniqueness. There have already been wide-angle prime compacts, such as the GRD series. Personally, I'd like to see the GRD's lens adapted for the Q. It was f1.9 and covered the same sensor size.

By the way, the 08 zoom is going to be on the shelves from December 6th in Japan.

Of course we need to wait for proper reviews and test pics, but it does seem a lens more positioned at quality than price.
The types of glass used seem expensive (and good), the shorter zoom range is generally aimed at quality over quantity.
Plus it's short and light.
I'll probably get it, but do fear this is a replacement for a wide prime and we may actually never get one of those.

A good prime is necessary for the Q system. I would much prefer the wide prime as well, but if it provides a decent picture I can certainly live with a zoom. I do hope it works well.

Been looking around the web for reviews on this lens haven't seen any yet. Interested to see if it lives up to the high price. If anyone picks one up soon please post some sample images and your impressions of it. Will there be an official Pentaxforums review of this lens?

It seems its size is not big as I expected. The set up is still tiny because the lens length is not too long even it's longer than 01. It's still shorter than 06 though.

Great for unobtrusive street shots. Just aim in general direction and shoot. No need to frame.

Who knows, maybe the Q is the system of the future! Small sensors appear to be improving at a very fast pace. It would be great if the Q got some more high quality budget primes, like the DA 35mm and DA 50mm for the K-mount.
