Dead Q

Decided to upgrade my Q with the latest firmware today, but found it dead. Completely dead Battery is charged and OK.

I have five year warranty on it so it will be repaired, but will of course be without it for a few weeks.

Try removing the battery and give the camera a "cold boot" with the battery reinstalled. This technique revived my K-5 IIs from a firmware update that caused a power insatiability. Good luck....

I had a dead Q when my 06 lens failed.
Swapped lenses and the Q was fine. Pentax (CRK) replaced the 06 lens immediately.

December 7th a day that will live in infamy...... oh sorry that was Pearl Harbor Day not death of a Q day. Sorry to hear about your Q, I thought they seemed pretty bullet proof.

First, ensure the card door and battery door are properly closed. My Q will not start unless the doors are closed.

Then, ensure the lens (any Q lens) is properly mounted. My Q will start up then immediately shut down, or refuse to start up at all, if the lens contacts are not correctly aligned (I think that is the problem - unmounting and remounting a lens solves the problem anyway).

Unfortunately it is. Got a message that my old Q was not possible to repair and they are sending me a new Q7 instead.

You might have mixed feelings about that. I'd be happy to get the improved IQ of the Q7, but sad to lose the lovely build quality of the Q.

Sorry your Q died. I really doubt it is unrepairable. Q isn't that long in the tooth. The warranty company just isn't interested in repairing it. They have likely decided it is easier for them to replace it.

As stated the Q7 has better IQ, but not build quality. I would be ok with this deal. Would hunt up an original Q to add to the stable. Q can be found very inexpensively.

thanks
