Q7/Sigma 180 Macro: Backyard Birding

Since obtaining the Q7 I have trying it out for birding in my backyard. While it doesn't have the reach of the original Q with Q to K adapter and K mount lenses, the bigger sensor and buffer has advantages. Below are 2 images from this morning with the Sigma 180 macro which equates to close to a 800mm lens. Focus peaking is great for focussing. Wishing everyone the best wishes of the holiday season.

These are some good images. My only question would be how is he (or she) going to eat that peanut?

He/she will crack the shell and then eat.

Looks great, that Sigma seems like a great lens for the Q7.

Those jays are beautiful and voracious! The European jay (Oak Jay) is also a serious candidate at the feeding post. Details in the feathers are very clear.

It also confirms my feeling that the small Q/Q7 sensor prefers macro lenses, that are generally very sharp and can fully demonstrate the sensor potential. I don't have the luck to own a 180mm or 200mm macro but I enjoy my Pentax FA 100/3.5 Macro, which is the smallest and lightest that I could find and gives superb results. Much appropriate for Q as it is very compact (lighter and almost the same size as a Sigma 50/2.8 macro, which is also excellent)

Q7 Likes Macro lenses

Yes the Q7 seems to work well with macro lenses. I will try other lenses as well including the Tamton 70-200 f2.8.
