C-mount "normal" primes

So... As I can't afford a Pentax 01 at the moment, and I'd really only use it in lower light situations, I'm looking around at fast c-mount primes in the 7-9 mm range. Here's the question: What format should I be looking for to avoid vignetting and/or soft edges? There's 1/3", 1/2", and 2/3". I assume the bigger the better, but I just wanted to pick the brain of someone who has been down this road before.

Any particular C-mounts in that range worth looking out for? I want something reasonably sharp wide open with minimal aberrations, otherwise there's not much point.

most c-mounts worth noting fetch the same or more than the native lenses.

Search for the 12 blades Fujian (usually comes in silver). This is a 2/3" 35mm f 1.7
Great little lens for as cheap as $30.

Again, make sure is the 12 blades one.

He's looking for fast lenses in the 7-9mm range. $30 won't likely happen unless he's really really lucky

I can read... but thanks for spelling it out for me.

I know very well that $30 bucks will not give him what he "might" need... but I've offered him an alternative for a cheaper and fast lens with very decent quality.
I believe I've also said it is a 35mm so he knows is not a 7-9mm...
Now is up to him if he is interested or not.

No insult intended' my appologies.
If you want something cheap you could look for a 8.5mm cosmicar but IMHO I would save for the 01.

It is.. I have one. Don't use that focal length too often, but it is a great little lens for the money.

That's one I was kinda looking at, actually. There's a few Computars in that range, too.

Not sure if you're still looking, but if you can find the pentax branded version, it's better built with less slop in the rings and iris. Also comes with working set screw holes (the cosmicar's aren't threaded in the right places) so you have a little lever and a lock for the aperture ring. Both have PF and CA and aren't as sharp as the 01. I think the scale focus is also a bit off and both require shims.

Thanks for the tip! I did actually pick up a Computar 8mm / 1.3 C-mount that's pretty decent. It should hold me for awhile 'til I can afford an 01.
