Just took the plunge..

After reading all the reviews, and Q7 vs original Q, I have just odered the original Q with 01 and 02 lens kit. (new in box and all for $249 shipped!)

Can't wait to start having fun and being able to take pix at parties and shows without bringing out the K-30. I'm into birding, and have a few M primes that will go nicely, once I get the Pentax adaptor. It's no replacement for the K-30, so I know what to expect.

I'll be able to give it a good workout at Disneyland too instead of the slightly heavier K-30 18-135 combo.

Besides, the price was just too good with both lenses included.

Thats a very tidy price - well done.
Even tho I've had a few 'full sized' cameras in the interim, the Q has always remained and pretty much lives in my laptop bag and follows me everywhere.

Wow, you got a great deal on that! I have mine with me all the time too - there's no reason not to have it on you as it's so small. I use mine as my point and shoot of if I want to play around (with effects etc) or if I don't want to be noticed so much. And even when I want to be serious, it takes great images within it's ISO range (for me, I try to stay under 800, though now I have the Q7, I think 1600 is doable). If there's a lot of dynamic range, I'll bracket and merge in post.

Also, make sure you do the firmware updates and get more batteries. Congrats and hope you like it as much as I do!

Kendigitize, great choice picking up a Q dual lens kit. It is a blast to use, and will reward you with quality images. The Q is one of the best designed cameras ever and is rapidly reaching cult status. The Q enhances creativity ten fold.

You will absolutely love the Q for bird photography. Nothing else has the reach of the Q! The photographic possibilities are endless. Enjoy.

thanks

Wow!

Wow! OMG! and How Cute!
Those were my first impressions when I opened up my new Pentax Q 01 & 02 kit.

I've upgraded the firmware and took a few test shots out in the garden. How fun is this camera! I was able to get a few shots of the humming birds and the koi pond. It's overcast today so I used the flash (which I would use for humming bird shots anyways) These 2 shots were with the 01 prime, Av mode at f4.

Can't wait to play some more and get the Pentax brand adaptor and tripod foot. My kit was $249 and It looks like that's how much the adaptor is going to be too. I hope my K-30 dosn't get jelous.

I'm pretty impressed with the 01 lens, it's very good. It's a bit tight indoors, which is where the 02 comes in handy. It's not AS good, but I think the 01 has kind of a 50mm on APSC feel, just too tight for casual shots around the table.

The 01 makes the Q a little pocket-sized camera, though, that's really nice.

Do get lens hoods, though, there are a couple threads with suggestions.

I agree, the 01 is a great lens

I find the focal length pretty good on my Q (about the same as my 30mm on the APSC). Should be a bit better on the Q7 though

I have two Qs both used and three lenses, 2 02 zooms and the 03 fisheye. I bought them all used and paid $161 after selling 1 Q and 2 01 lenses. I can use the two Qs for stereo with the two 02 zooms on a bar I have. I have not used the 03 fish eye much yet but I have seen the pictures and I thought
enough of it to keep it. I have the adapters for both Pentax and Oympus lenses but have not used them much yet. It is much more difficult to focus a longer lens on these, but now I also have an LCD hood which helps in focusing.

Still getting used to the settings, but I love the low-light nightclub capabilities of this camera. (Wish I had it when I saw the Who in concert from the 7th row last year!) The shot of Diva Denise is straight from the camera.
It works nice for capturing my doggies too (I did some plugin effects in Lightroom for the dogs)

Yeah, the concert one looks great for ISO800 in a dark place.
I also said the same to my wife that I wish we had got one earlier for some of the concerts :-(
Oh well, were there now :-)

I have not processed any stereo pictures yet. I have the rig - Slik plate-deluxe for two cameras side by side and have taken some but didn't process them. My computer was down for a couple of days and getting the pictures off the two cards would be hard to find now that the images got wiped out with my computer. It should be good to use the self timer to sinc the two shots.

Oh yes - external hard drives or another backup should be in every photographer's budget. Probably before that new lens, really.

I bought a NAS last year, and while it's a bit twitchy sometimes (probably more my home network than the device) it's been very nice.
