How many metal Q lenses are there?

As of today I have three Q lenses. The 01, 02, and 06. I was surprised when I got the 02 (6 months after the 01) that the majority of the lens is metal. Today I just got the 06 (a month after the 02) and was surprised the lens body is plastic just like the 01. So my question is how many more metal Q lenses are there in addition to the 02? And does anybody know why the 02 is metal and the 01 and 06 are not? I find it odd to make lenses in the same class out of different materials.

Only the 02 has a metal base ring above the metal lens mount. The new 08 is all plastic but with a metal lens mount. The 03, toy lenses, and 07 are all plastic lens mount.

Why the 02? Hard to say, but the 02 has been the main kit offering for the Q, Q10, and Q7, so it was probably made in greater numbers for an expected larger audience of users, so better durability might have been a consideration. The 08, for example, is going to sell far fewer copies at the $500 price, and those no doubt will be bought by photographers more likely to take good care of camera gear.

Not sure about materials or relative durability but do note that the zoom feels much better on the 02 than the 06, which is a little disappointing. The reduced build quality on the 06 is a bit of a letdown for a $300 lens.

I am suspecting that they upspec-ed the 02 because it was announced with the pricier and better-built ur-Q. The later 06 was perhaps more aligned with the lower price point Q10.

I will be disappointed if the expensive 08 feels cheap.

08 should not feel cheap as it has the aluminum body and cam for the zoom. Seems to me that they may have learned a lesson after lots of people complained of the cheap build of the 06. I bet the 09 macro will be built nicer like the 08 also.

01, 02, 07 - made in Vietnam. 03, 06 - made in Thailand. 08 - made in China. 08 is all plastic except the mount, but it is very sharp. 03 is sharp, and has some unexpected macro capability.

I like your theory about the 02 build being in sync with the build of the original Q, but do remember the 01 was released at the same time as the 02 and was available as a kit lens. The 01 is plastic just like the 06.

A little surprised to read this -- I think the 03 is interesting and unique but have never thought it especially sharp or to be especially close-focusing or offer much magnification. I guess with gobs of DoF you can still see some detail on subjects well inside the actual minimum focus distance?

04 and 05 are also plastic with plastic mounts. But I'm holding an 02 and 08 in my hands right now. I don't think the 08 is aluminum, but I could be mistaken. Even if it is plastic, it is a well made item worth having if one owns a Q-camera.
