Pentax 08 Lens Cut in Half

DP Review has a neat picture of the 08 lens cut in half.

CP+ 2014: Things we found that had been cut in half: Digital Photography Review

I'm always amazed at how compact and well stuffed all the Q products are. No wasted space!!

Yep, a rather complex design. One thing that had me wondering was the fact that one element has a clear surface while the other are darkened (burned?). Is it plastic maybe?

I'm sure that many non-functional but geometrically correct dummy parts were fitted and glued in for presentation. It's hard to cut something in half and not have it fall apart. Everything is held together against other neighboring pieces. If one piece goes so do the others.

Seeing how compact everything is I can understand the high retail price. I imagine there is a lot of labor involved in assembling this lens.

I love looking at exploded diagrams or cut in half products. Sometimes, things that seem so simple are amazingly complex.

I wonder if its been cut in half by a laser (mounted to the head of a shark, naturally)

It looks like a flexible circuit board that connects to a small motor behind it. I can almost make out the motor body behind it.

Almost looks to be coupled to the shutter though.
