Suggestions appreciated pinholecam! I like the M42s in part because they can be used on both my K-01 and the Q., though if the improvement would be substantial, the low cost would seem to justify the Nikon/Canon for the Q alone...

Dug out my M42 100mm 4.0 SMC Macro Tak that I usually use on the K-01, and went back to the Toy Swans with it and Q. Two shots following, the first at 4.0, the second at 5.6. (No PP, JPG cropped a bit right off the Q) Seems a bit of an improvement over the 135mm, at 5.6 at least.

In your opinion and experience, would I expect to do better with the Canons and or Nikon? Are they 'more modern' designs you mentioned? (aspherical, etc.)

Thoughts/suggestions always appreciated!.

F5.6 looks good, and like what crew said, seems to be a good setting for the Q considering CA and diffraction.

I have no experiencewith Nikon lenses.
I would say that the Canon FD ones are about the same as M or A serious Pentax lenses.
The main reason I brought them up are that they are better than m42 ones on the tele and uwa ends and really cheap.
The fd135 f2.5 for example is a fraction of the cost of a k135/2.5.
Of course we can use the k135 on our dslrs and the fd can't, which is a point to consider too.

Have the M42 SMCT 135/F3.5? Don't Despair.. Stop Down!

I went back to the Toy Swans with my -855 M42 SMCT 135/F3.5. Larry was right on the money. F5.6 is better. F8,0 - in this case, better yet.

Not equal to the F4.0 100mm SMC Macro Tak at F5.6 - but remember the Macro Tak is maybe going for 4x the cost of a very nice 135.

Note: EXIF says 105mm - its the 135 alright. Just trying the recommendation to use 70-80% because of Q shake overcompensation.

No PP. Camera JPG. 1st is F5.6, 2nd F8
