I equate your question to asking whether one should buy a fast 50 if one already owns a decent 24~70 or 28~80. Of course!! if you need a fast 50.

In my experience using hoods on all Q lenses is a huge differentiator. Aside from the one-off bad copy like Sandy's they're all good to outstanding lenses.

I rank mine in order of sharp output and color vibrance, 06 + 01 are tied, 03 (really!) then 02. Adding the hood for the 02 (and then adding the tulip hood for the Q7) helped significantly with color and contrast.

None of that is to say the 02 is bad - it is a very nice lens in good light and good enough indoors without flash. It is to say the Q/Q7 punch well above their weight class with just a little care and skill.

The 02 is a good lens but the 01 is even better. Sharper, more contrast, faster! I leave mine at f/2.8 where I find it helps to produces excellent images.

Here's an 01 shot today . . .

. . . but I think my 02 would have done as well. I'll have to test them side by side.

The 01 to me is what makes the Q tick.
I'd take it over the 02 anyday.

1. Fast aperture to keep ISO down (esp for the small sensor)
2. Fast aperture to get a bit shallower DOF for near objects
3. Fast focusing
4. Fixed FL for more spontaneous use
5. Best IQ lens so far for the Q system

The FL coverage that the 02 has, can often be covered by the 01 with a few steps forward or backward.
I often find that if I need the 02 for something wider, I'd get it with the fisheye for a more dramatic shot.
YMMV of course

I bought the 02 after owning the 01. I've only used it once.

I'd agree with some of the others here that the 01 is kind of just part of the Q in a way. I shoot mainly street photography and a little bit of landscape/lifestyle, so the 01 is good for me because I'm either shooting people and the wide angle is great for framing as I walk by, or I'm shooting a landscape and getting the whole vista is easy with the wide angle.

Other than that the Q just seems at it's best when shooting at 1.9, it's just feels sort of how it's meant to be shot. Like, I have the 06 and while it's a really useful tool, I've come to appreciate shooting with a prime so much more. My sister has the 02 because it came with her Q10, and from the brief time I've spent with it I don't think I'd ever need to buy one of my own. The 01's focal length is just perfect for my style of shooting.

I'd definitely recommend you get it (and it looks like you did so congrats.) I think shooting with a prime is a powerful way to shoot, and I'm pretty sure it helps you learn as well because you really need to focus on framing and where you need to move and go in order to get the right shot. With a kit zoom lens like that come with most system cameras I don't feel like you get as into the creation of the shot, and as a result I don't think you learn and grow as much.

I'm really glad the OG Q came with the 01 initially as the kit lens, it's the best IMO.
Cheers, enjoy your 01

02 lens

I have two, 02 s, too, (that would be three 2's :') ) and all are fine. I tried an 01 and it was good for being small and a little faster but didn't seem that much better and the zoom was cheaper and had better macro ability. You can pick up the 02 for half the price of an 01 as well.

I just bought another Q off ebay. The one I have already I have the 02 and 06, but the new one has a prime on it for less than the cost of buying the lens separately. I feel a little frivolous and guilty but I should get over it

Now I just have to find an adaptor to use my k500 lenses on my Q. Which one is good and a good deal I wonder?

adapter

I have the fotodix adapter, deal wise it is fine. The Pentax one is better but ten times as expensive, it has a built in shutter vs using the Q's electronic shutter. Do your research as well and read the reviews on this site. Bundles on Ebay are a good way to acquire single items, that is how I got my equipment as well.

I have the same one. It works. I'd own a genuine Pentax one in a heartbeat but for my limited use, it's far too expensive.

I noticed there are two different fotodiox ones on Amazon and wonder which would work best with the DA lenses I have.

if you're adapting DA lenses, buy the one with aperture control. Otherwise you'll have to shoot everything wide open.

Also have the fotodiox with aperture control, works well enough

The genuine item would be nice 1 day though

I am wondering about other Q lenses, whether there will always be cameras to put them on etc.
