The built-in intervalometer and small size make it great for this stuff. I mostly use the fisheye for the kind of shots that I take. Here's some from my latest RoadRUNNER story (Ontario, Canada):

Q gets the coveted lede photo! Spread out over two pages! The camera is mounted to a monopod that is clamped onto a hardshell backpack:

Overall, I'm really happy with the creative opportunities that the Q offers. I've mounted it in all manner of places, just like a Go-Pro, but with the benefit of a rear screen to compose. Little things like the ability to change batteries and memory cards without unmounting also make a big difference.

Looking forward to seeing the system evolve-improved IQ, better low light, etc...

Thanks everyone! This is a homecoming of sorts, as I used to use a Ricoh GX100 for these kinds of photos:





But the GX100 was stolen in 2009 and I'd been looking for a suitable replacement ever since then. When you have a very specific set of needs — 24mm or wider FOV, small, light, intervalometer, RAW—it's amazing how very few camera meet the requirements. I've tried GoPro style cameras but have never been impressed enough with their still images. I've even tried a Panasonic GH2, but the size, weight, and plug in intervalometer were tough to deal with:


I managed to get this shot with the camera, but soon after the weight of the zoom lens and vibration of the Harley Davidson conspired to overwhelm the small ball head I was using.



So when the Q was announced, it ticked all the boxes, and it was just a matter of time before I had one. Now I have two, and am looking forward to using them again this riding season!

Excellent post showcasing your adventures with the Q. Your photography and writing are first class. Appreciate the behind the scenes look of a published story. The explanations are very helpful.

Does the fisheye ever cause problems with fast moving shots and the electronic 1/13 shutter speed? Do you ever use the new Pentax ultra wide zoom?

Love the Q double page spread. Shows what a true photographer can accomplish. Well done.
