Yes I think the way I'll go is to stop it down near enough to f4ish and just leave it, but yes, just waiting for them to turn up now.

Handy handy indeed! The idea being that one could get a M42 reversing ring and even mount it in front of the lens. But given the size of the 110 20-40mm f2.8 this might not be to out of place..
Something like that makes more sense for big cine lenses that have been adapted to M42 but anyway.. There are options.
And I still think a simple lens baby aperture disk to get it sharp is the way to go, and then forget about it. I mean I won't need to stop down for extra depth on a Q now will I... well.. rarely I predict
