Circular fisheye converter for pentax Q

Just got a Q7 with a 02 standard zoom and 01 Prime. I have an Ipix fisheye converter and decide to mount it on Q7 and see how it performs. I made a 37mm to 40.5mm step ring.
Today I took some picture using the kit lens and ipix. Indoor performance is not good for Pentax Q. Shutter speed is a bit too low 1/10s to 1/20s. I need to take some shots in good light next time.

That looks pretty good!
I have always been wary of attaching an objective to the front of the Q lenses as I feel the AF mechanism and overall construction aren't really sufficiently beefy to handle attachments.
Does it seem like it is a non issue?

Good thing is at about 9mm for 02 zoom, the lens is retracted instead of extended. The ipix lens is not heavy.

Larger image from early test. Just mount the ipix infront of lens. No step ring. Cartoonish filter on Q7 in use.

Just ordered a 03 fisheye and will do some comparison when it arrives.

This looks like better IQ than the cheap C/CS mount or board lens fisheyes out there!

I suspect the 03 is a better lens overall, but I guess with the 02 + Ipix you could zoom from full circle to full frame fisheye??

IPIX with MX-1

I got one of these and it could be 185 deg. I like the way it works on the MX-1 - it's actually sharp to the edges with almost zero fringing. A pleasant surprise!

The circle is a tad small (zooming reduces coverage) and I worked out that it uses exacly Pi ( 3.14MP ) pixels. It is however sharp, sharp, SHARP. Better than on the Q!

This is a whole-tent 360 x 2 circular "clamshell" panorama with the IPIX on the MX-1:

Deat All

Here is a test of the Lensbaby fisheye (in French)

Test Lensbaby Circular Fisheye 5,8 mm f/3,5 - Focus Num

It appears to be sharp at f8. The brilliant ring around the picture is supposed to be a feature. The paper also notes a problem with decentered picture. As the test was made on a Nikon D300, it cannot be sensor shifting 😀. Overall, a nice inexpensive ultra-wide focal. Enjoy

A short adventure that took all day.. kayaking to Seagrape Hammock, aka Willoughby Ke

I used the MX-1/Ipix combo extensively on this trip. It's a really decent setup, cheap and surprisingly good!
