This shot is great! I have been there last November, it is forbidden to take pictures inside it, obviously just to sell you some postcards and book when you go out. I took some shots with the smartphone but the man of security ran to me to say that I can't. Then he never stopped to look at me all the time...

Interesting...

I visited as a typical 'average Joe' tourist with no basis to claim any privileges...

Before I entered, I requested (and was granted) permission to take photos, so long as I was not intrusive on others and a flash was not used. Of course, I can't speak to the situation you faced, but in my case, well... through dumb luck, perhaps, good things happened.

Cheers... M

Nice work, Michael. I didn't go inside because of the queue, but you obviously persisted, with good result.

There's no-one quite as officious as an Italian museum security officer, is there? A bit of flattery obviously gets you further than other approaches!

Rob

There's a trick to avoiding the queue...

Do a Google Search for "Rick Steves San Marco, Venice"... scan down for the result that includes the term "p.85" for page 85... or...

Copy, the Paste all of this link into your browser:: Rick Steves' Venice 2013 - Rick Steves, Gene Openshaw - Google Books steves san marco venice&source=bl&ots=QKaqTggCC0&sig=PELFP9Do8_-I9NZDEbzsTuNKbkk&hl=en&sa=X&ei=gsM9VLmQBrSBsQTAu4G4CA&ved=0CFEQ6AEwBw#v=onepage&q=rick%20steves%20san%20marco%20venice&f=false

FYI: I have a ton of Q7 trip-images and will be slowly 'drip-drip' posting the ones that seem to work on Flickr (link, below) over the next few months... Feel free to check them out when convenient...

Cheers... M

Neat trick, thanks Michael.

I put most of my output from my trips abroad up on Flickr, so my far-flung family can have a look at them. They are more of a travelogue than serious attempts at picture-making, but some of them stand out as possibilities, with a bit of work. Yours are looking very nice, thank you. It was also great to accidentally cross paths with another Pentax appreciator and Forum Member.

Cheers

Another Q7/08...

In this case, Basilica San Vitale, Ravenna...

...handheld and NOT a panorama.

Cheers... M

Wow! It looks even better full size. The performance of the Q7's sensor is amazing for its size. All credit to the photographer, naturellement...

Quite a nice picture indeed. However IMHO it does not do San Marco justice, there is nothing like being there, seeing the mosaics (not paintings) with your own eyes... ;-)

Thank you... interesting observation.

In this case, may I ask specifically what needs to be added (or removed) photographically that will do San Marco justice? What's missing?

Cheers... M

Hi!

Nothing is missing, the picture is good and colors wonderful.

It wasn't a critic about the picture but rather just a bad way of saying that this church is so beautiful that no picture will ever be able to show it.

Ciao!

hand held low shutter speed 08 on Q7 inside churches and museums. Reminds me of me :-)
My wife has a Sony a6000 so I'm no stranger to quality. But often my 08 interior pictures are kept in preference to the Sony's from our holidays.

Michaelina2, absolutely wonderful images. Being handheld makes them even more remarkable. You have the Q7/08 performing at the highest level. Processing is first rate. Can't wait to see more.
thanks for sharing
