08 Zoom verses 01 Prime

Has anyone done a test of the 08 Zoom verses the 01 Prime?

The specs always mention the maximum aperture but seldom the minimum. Kind of p….. me off at times that they are so inconsiderate of those of us who are trying to maximize depth of field. What is the minimum aperture of the 08? Is it f8 as on the 01, 02 and 06?

In an unrelated event, I was in Target today and almost fell over when I saw they were selling a Pentax K-50. No, it was not on display with all the Canon and Nikon's but it was locked up in one of their glass cabinets under the camera display. What is this world coming to?

I don't have an answer on the 08, but after seeing a white kay-fiddy in one of my local Targets (also locked up) I petitioned them to move cameras next to bedding, so that there would be more soft things to fall down on.

I have 01 through 08. I've have not thought to compare IQ between 01 and 08 because they are such different focal lengths, but I like the 08 a lot, and for something like 17.5 mm (eq.) wide it can't be beat for it's size. Minimum aperture is f7.1 to f8.

Having said that, the sensor size and the wide angle of the 08 makes shallow DOF a fairly vain pursuit with it. Enjoy it for its w-i-d-e-n-e-s-s.

BTW, Wikipedia has a good Pentax Q-system page, and because of your question, I just went in there (I'm a registered editor) and corrected the 08's minimum aperture from incorrect f4 to correct f7.1 - f8.
