The Q7 Premium Kit

I tracked down a Premium Kit in Japan and had it delivered to China. It came in at about 945 USD including delivery. I'm planning on doing some reviews soon, but I thought I'd start this thread with something I find interesting. The following items came in the kit:

Q7 body...Assembled in Philippines
01 Lens...Assembled in Vietnam
01 Lens hood..Assembled in Vietnam
02 Lens...Assembled I'm Vietnam
02 Lens hood...Made in Japan
06 Lens... Made in Thailand
06 Lens hood...Made in Vietnam
08 Lens...Made in China
08 Lens hood... Made in Japan
Camera strap...China
CPL filter... Made in Japan

I'm impressed at the international effort made by Ricoh to make this kit work.

The first "Q7 Complete Kit" is this, with the 08 lens that I added afterwards. This and the later "Q7 Premium Kit" -- which swapped the 03, 04, and 05 for the 08 -- were very good deals since the 01 was so hard to get as a standalone purchase, and the sets came with a nice bag that carries nearly the entire set. The sets also came with all of the lens hoods; they too are hard to find as standalone purchases. Pentax hasn't done this package with the Q-S1 (yet).

An ideal Christmas gift for any Q series enthusiast.

Well, considering that the rare earth probably comes from Africa and Oceania, the components made in China, Japan and other Asian countries and the boards likely made in China and Japan it's not that weird to have assembly in different places too.

Congratulations on the purchase! Got some special items there! Only time I saw the premium kit was in that unboxing video on youtube by the user Blunty:

Looks really awesome

Even though it sounds like a lot of scratch for Pentax Q gear, I'm sure I spent more by buying them piece by piece and I still don't have the hard-to-find hood for the 08 or the latest petal hood for the 02.

I thought about getting the kit but I missed my chance. Have fun with it! Post some pics!
Both kits might still be found from Asian stores on ebay, but both were available for several months earlier this year on the Pentax USA Webstore, which is where I got mine.

I'm surprised that the 08 lens is made in China. Does Ricoh have a factory there or is this a contract item from another optics manufacturer?

I'd like to know too. The optical quality and construction and feel of the 08 seem to be very good to excellent. Not your typical Made in China lens.

It's not like the Chinese can't make high quality stuff, it's just that the cheap low-quality stuff generally is made there.

When I was young, "Made in Japan" was read as "Cheap and Flimsy"

Both Ming Dynasty vases and the cheap knock-offs are made there... what a country!

Well, I've lived in China for 6 years. I know that they are capable of making high quality stuff here. The low quality stuff is sold here or to Walmart, while most of the high quality stuff is made for export (like the 08)

Oh sure, its just like the USA or most other countries, some stuff is cheap crap and other stuff is fine craftsmanship.
