I do not have a Q-K adapter for my original Q so I don't have any concept of how it would fit on the Q-S1. Sorry.
The Pentax K-q adapter ought to work just as well on the Q-S1 as it does on the original Q and Q7 where it is excellent.

I cradle the camera and adapter in one hand,
while using the other hand to change the focus and aperture lever,
and then to actuate the shutter release.

Works well with lenses from the DA 40 XS (I don't have the plastic 06)
all the way to a Voigtlaender 180.
This sounds kind of similar to how I have always held a camera with a long lens (although with a Q, it might be a lens with a camera!). I use my left hand to hold the lens and my right hand to hold and operate the camera. The difference is that I also use my left hand (the one holding the lens) to adjust focus and aperture rings and to vary zoom on zoom lenses.

+2 for Michalina2's suggestion. That is a great price on a wonderful little camera and lens.

I got my Q S-1 last night!

Already gone through a battery playing with it

Coming from a Q my first impression was its feels a lot cheaper! All the dials feel more fragile, I don't think the Q S-1 is badly made it's just the original Q was so well made (I've been spoilt!).

I've got big hands, but I never felt the original Q to be uncomfortable, the Q S-1 does not quite feel as secure, that weird circular grip is not as bad as I thought, but it's certainly less comfortable as a normal grip. The OK button and arrows keys are also harder to push.

Weirdly testing the focus last night, the Q S-1 seemed to focus faster but would sometimes refuse to focus on things, but my Q had no problem locking the focus!

I fear this will be the future for our little camera: they will improve the electronics but the physical build quality will never match the original Q. It would probably be too expensive. That said i am very satisfied with the handling, build and feel of my Q7. I hope the Q S-1 is not a physical down grade from the Q7

Ricoh could be gearing up to add a second functional knob or button.
Great review, thank you for posting this! Very interesting take on the peculiar new knob, I hope you are right

...If the sensor tech from the Q7 simply passed on to the Q-S1 then I would seriously consider pouncing on it once it goes below $199 with an 02 lens...

Q7/02 at $199.95... Bingo!

You just have to take a chance and not look back. Too many times I've waited for one more price reduction ... only to watch the price march upward for the next year.

+1 @ $219 a week ago. Just finished Q vs. Q7 comparison with 02 and 06 lenses and I'm pleased with the upgrade. Maked the Q7 suitable for MY purposes whereas keeping the Q was pretty iffy -- although the Q was a reasonably capable travel kit in its own right.

How about those who paid over $300 just four months ago and thought that was a good deal.

But think of the head start they had with taking pictures! Their shutter count must be in the five figures by now ... right, right?

Since we should always buy electronics with the knowledge that the price will fall with time, sometimes precipitously, there is no reason to feel bad when that happens. I am very happy for the people getting these great deals now but I have gotten excellent use out of the cameras I bought 6 months or a year ago. The new buyers missed all of those shots and all of that fun!
