Pentax Q7 & Digiscoping~

Hey guys, long time owner of a few Q's and now a new Q7.
I've noticed quite a few threads with amazing tele images shot with the Pentax DA300 & Pen Q, but was wondering what sort of setups have people had success with the Q and a scope- anyone care to share digiscoping setups?

I do like the idea of the DA300 but it has the fixed 300mm setting whereas scopes have adjustable zoom ranges....I'd like to see how you guys setup your digiscoping rigs with the Q.

Please post your setups and recommendations here~
Cheers~~

Celectron C90 with T-mount to K so it allows direct mounting of my Q. It's effectively a 1250mm f13 lens so on the Q its around 7000mm equivalent on the Q.

Thanks for the reply.
Question, would the less expensive EBay pentax da to q adapters with aperture ring work just as effectively as the $200+ adapters with a da 300 lens?
I've found a few adapters on eBay but not sure about the aperture ring adjustments that are claimed.

There are 3 types of K to Q adapters. The Pentax Official adapter is the $200 version and without a doubt the most effective and feature rich of the three. It has its own shutter so you have far greater control over exposure time with it, particularly during flash.
Review: Pentax K to Q-mount Adapter - Introduction | PentaxForums.com Reviews

The others do not have their own shutter and vary on whether you can control the f-stop manually. The cheapest ones do not allow aperture changes so you have to be using a lens with its own aperture ring. The more expensive non-Pentax models have their own aperture control.

I own a non-Pentax model that allows for aperture control on lenses without their own ring.

Hope that helps.

Steve,

I have a Tele-Takumar 200mm f/5.6 and use it with a Fotodiox M42-to-Q adapter. I went with a budget setup. Altogether, I think those 2 items set me back US$60-70. Here's a photo of what that could get you. The owl was in a tree, about 30 feet up, across the street.

Wanted to see how well the Q would work for digiscoping. This is with the 01 lens, Tv mode 1/2000 shutter speed in autofocus mode..held up to one of the eye pieces of a dusty, 70's era 20x50 binocular. I focused the binoculars on some leaves, then held the binocs in one hand and Q in the other trying to keep it all aligned. This was my first shot. I'm impressed with how clear it is. This with no processing except for size so I could upload it. I could see with a tripod and good scope the results would be very good using the Q.

Orion ED80T-CF

as already said in this thread, I have very good results with my Q7 and the amazing ED80T-CF scope (eq. 2200mm focal length), in addition with some accessories (Manfrotto 500ah etc).

Some pics here :

This lens is very sharp for the price. The focus peaking of the Q7 helps a lot and the demultiplicated speed of the focuser too. In fact, with a quite target, the result is very easy. Thanks Steve.

Q7+ED80T-CF = great setup.

These are very good examples. Do you have a link to pictures of the setup and how you are adapting the scope to the camera?
--------------
I have found some images in the thread you referenced. Can you describe the adapter and right angle view finder in this page of yours and how to acquire?

I am totally uninformed on this topic of telescopes as camera lenses, sorry for all the questions.

Amazingly, that Barred owl was in someone's yard in a fairly urban part of town.

Here's my pentax Q with the 01 prime lens, digiscoping adapter and Orion Skyscanner 100 reflector. Did a few test shoots of the moon and am happy with my first try. There's some heavy CA around the bright edge of the moon, but I'm not using a moon filter or anything and I think that will help.
