I think the wonderful hawk shot was taken with a 500mm, not the megazoom

Stephen when I tried the da18-135 on my Q it killed my desire to use an all in one due to the horrible manual focus and so-so IQ.
After seeing Amy's shots I may revisit with my 18-250.
If the focus throw is short though it makes it hard to work with.
Oh yes, manual focus is the most difficult part of using an adapted lens of any sort. I'm not sure what the depth-of-field of these lenses is, but with my bird-feeder shots, the only one I'm truly sure of is the squirrel (because you can see his whiskers), and he was the only one who stayed there for more than a couple of seconds. I'm also guessing that the IQ of lenses with shorter throw will be better than with all-in-one lenses. When I discovered that the 75mm-210mm lens remaining from my film days had developed some mildew, I essentially had two obvious choices - buy a replacement used lens known to be clean, or buy an adapter that would allow me to use the 18mm-250mm Tamron lens I got for my EF-mount Canon last year. I thought buying the used lens was the safer choice, because I wasn't sure what the IQ would be like on the long-throw lens, and aperture control on modern adapted lenses is iffy. If I understand correctly, the reason Steve started this thread was to see what the actual truth is; maybe when I get a few more pennies to rub together, I will get that EF-PQ adapter, but not quite yet.

Here is a test I did today with the Tamron 18-250. The Q adapter was set to position 1 so f stops are approximate by adding a stop to the wide open lens aperture number.
It was not that bad at 250, but at 18mm and 100mm the focus was really hard to get right even when using magnify.
I use a loupe and it still did not help, it seemed the focus went from blurry to less blurry and that was it.
Here is the scene.

For my first set of tests I forgot to set the Q to base ISO so these were run at ISO200.
I later did an ISO125 shot as well for comparison but there was not much difference.
Q ISO 200 F5.6 1/1250 18mm

Q ISO 200 F8 1/500 250mm

Q ISO 200 F8 1/640 100mm

Q ISO 125 F8 1/200 250mm

I also ran some tests with the Q7 and as expected IQ is a bit better but magnification is less.
Q7 ISO 100 F5.6 1/800 18mm

Q7 ISO 100 F8 1/160 250mm

Q7 ISO 100 F8 1/160 100mm

Q7 ISO 100 F8 1/200 250mm

For comparison here are a couple of shots with the DA*300
DA*300 Q ISO 200 F5.6 1/2000 300mm

DA*300 Q ISO 125 F5.6 1/1000 300mm

The da300 lens never fails to amaze me....I don't own one but it has consistently proven itself a great lens on the Q!
Thanks again for these replies.
