The Q7 goes cruising

In late November we left for Fort Lauderdale to go on a 2 week cruise. We left Calgary on Nov. 27th on a cold and snowy morning, so the wings of the plane had to be deiced

While taxing I took a snap out of the window

Pretty soon we were airborne and above the first layer of clouds

A few hours later we arrived in Houston, Texas

To be continued...

Very nice indeed. What lens were you using for the aerial photos?

My Q should be here Monday. I sure hope I like it as much as you do yours.

Which model did you get? I have the original Q and like it a lot. I've been playing around with my daughter's Q7 and if it had a metal body I'd trade. The IQ is better and it's faster to AF.

I've heard a number of less-than-positive comments about the 02.
Do you have a personal opinion concerning the quality of these three lenses?

Surprised a bit on #6. How much post processing did you do on them?

Reh,for whatever reason the 02 seems to have a less than stellar reputation and while I would not rate it as the best IMHO it's decent performer. My rating from personal use without a bunch of testing would be as follows: 01, 06, 08, 02, 03. That are the five that I own and use. My wife uses a Q10 and the 02 is the only lens that she uses, here is a recent one from the Cruise. We only shoot in raw and process in ACR-Photoshop cloud.

Robert, no special processing, shot in raw, iso 100, at f/3.5 at 5mm and 1/800 sec.and processed in ACR-Photoshop Cloud

I bought one of the original Qs with an 02 lens from a guy on the forum. I saw a lot of deals out there for the Red Q7, but just could not handle the color RED! I am not expecting world class IQ but I can't wait to play with it.

You'll have a ball. Its build quality is on par with our K-7/5/3's IMHO.

I don't understand why so many people are concerned about the plastic bodies. Modern "space age" plastics are quite good, and are used in all kinds of places where strength is required (like on automobiles and airplanes). I don't see any reason for that construction detail to keep you away from the bigger and better sensor. How many companies still make metal camera bodies?

I would agree with Heinrich re the 02. It is a greatly under-rated lens. There is a bit of barrel distortion, but the IQ is very decent and colour reproduction is excellent. I recently bought the 08 expecting it to blow the 02 out of the water, but I have been a little underwhelmed after three weeks of daily use.

Probably the same reason they prefer to drink out of a crystal glass rather than a plastic mug; even if the plastic mug is stronger.
