Q-S1 + 07 = no hotshoe flash?

I can't seem to get this working with pocket wizards. Flash on or off doesn't seems to make a difference. I've gone down to 1/10 shutter to make sure its not a sync speed issue. I'm not getting any triggering out of the hotshoe.

Which flash? The manual for the Q-S1 seems ominous about using non-Pentax flash with it...

Pentax QS-1 Operation Manual (Page 84 of 110)

See caution...

Just plain pocket wizards -- just need it to fire the center pin.

I suspect that should be OK - but that manual warning is interesting. I guess just the standard disclaimer.

Have you turned flash to off in the menu?

I now see that you already wrote it so other than bad connection or broken units I got no good guesses.

I can't speak to the Q-S1, because I have a Q-7. I am using a generic flash which I still had twenty years after using it with my Pentax Super Program (my wife says I never toss things). At first I had trouble getting the flash to work. IIRC, my problem was that I had disabled the flash at the menu level. I now set the on-board flash to be disabled when it is lowered and enable the external flash at the menu level. I normally set the shutter speed to something like 1/60, solely because that is the kind of shutter speed I had to use with my film cameras.

I can't get the FlashQ wireless trigger to work with the Q either.

Yes. M mode -- 1/8th shutter, ISO 100, f/9. Flash is set to OFF. Single shot drive mode.

I can only suggest turning flash on. After that I think you may have a dead hot shoe. I have the Q and the Q-remote (not made by Pentax) and it works fine, but I'll have to check settings when I get home.

Yep, my FlashQ works fine with my Q. Flash is off, M mode, fires fine.

I suspect the hotshoe is fried. Older flash units have a high trigger voltage which can damage newer cameras. I had two Olympus Micro 4/3 hotshoes fried, but thought that Pentax had still kept the older, more robust shoes. Apparently not.

Steve, I have the FlashQ and it works on my Q7. Do you have the Flash set to "off" in the menu and flash speed slow enough (slower than flash-sync speed)?

Well, the hotshoe works with the 01 lens perfectly fine. Its not fried or disconnected. I can trigger the flashes without a problem.

But it doesn't work with the 07 lens (which is why its in the title)
