And it really *does* have a bulb mode. A stupid one, relatively speaking, but it does exist.
Yeah, but it's so easy to implement a proper one.

Maybe the sensor overheats after 32 seconds? dunno.

Pentax Q limited to 30 seconds in Bulb Mode

... sensor overheats after 32 seconds...

The high ratio Area / Volume of the Tiny CMos Sensor prevents them to Overheat !
One night in late August, after taking tens & tens of 30 seconds Exposures...
I took a short exposure just to Record the Temperatures into Exif Data
The internal Camera Temperature was 24C = Ambient Temper.
Only Timers and Regulators are at work for 30 seconds

And even if these Tiny CMos Sensor could Overheat...
- recording Long Movies at 60 fps holding the Q in your hot hands ?
since the first Q, these cameras were fitted with the Most Modern BSI CMos Sensors
that implies their Dark Current, thus Thermal Noise is very Very Low compared to CCD Sensors.

Here is a Test from my old Pentax K5 : 16 minutes Exposure at ISO 80 ~22C Internal Temper.~
The Raw File is pushed +6 Ev and the Contrast up to the Maximum through an "S" curve :
PK5Lv 5 6 (Size: Large) - Astro - Photo Gallery - Cloudy Nights
No FPN, No Banding, No Amp-Glow, No Hot-Pixels...
only Random Shot Noise !

Is this simply the bad habit to limit P&S Cameras to 30 seconds ?
- Some Canon P&S are limited to 15 seconds !
- But many P&S & small cameras now hold 60 or 250 sec. long Bulb Exposures :

Nikon Coolpix P330-340 P7000-7800, Olympus XZ1-XZ2 Stylus1 = Sony 1/1.7 = 60 sec
Pana LUMIX DMC-LX3-LX5-LX7-FZ28-FX150-FZ200 FZ1000 = Sony 1/1.7 & 1" = 60 sec.
Casio Ex-10-100, Leica C, PanaLUMIX DMC-LF1, SamsungNX Mini = Sony 1/1.7-1" =250 s

I think we have to insist requesting
for the Qs 250 sec. Long Exposures to Adam...
... Adam who will request this Essential Feature for the Q family to Pentax Headquarters...
just because the Qs benefit from the Most Sensitive sensors ever made !

There is a trick to get a much longer time on bulb or timed exposure. You can get approximately 4 minutes 30 seconds. About 18 seconds longer on B. I have only tried this on the original Q. You may not like the steps required.

1. Set camera to jpeg.
2. Turn off image stabilization.
3. Activate multiple exposure. Pick number of exposures 2-9. If you want more light, turn off auto ev correction.

Take your shots.

Down sides:
1. After every 30 second shot, camera does 30 second dark frame. Can't be stopped.
2. Must shoot in jpeg. No Raw.

It does work. You just have to be dedicated.
