Q7 shutter woudn't fire when in auto focus pointed at distant horizon sky....

... I had to switch to manual focus using the 02 zoom at it's widest. In auto focus mode I could change my POV from the distant horizon to something close (my shadow below me) and it would fire. The red square wouldn't turn green when pointed to the horizon.

Any ideas?

Can't get a lock on empty sky, I guess. Set to release priority instead of focus priority.

The Q series requires contrast to focus. It has difficulty in focusing on a solid or near solid color. That is normal for any camera that relies on contrast to focus. If you had aimed at something with contrast such as a building or tree or something in the distance then it would have locked focus.

Try finding something with an edge. Move your focusing point to a cloud so that the outline of the cloud runs through the focusing point. That ought to be enough contrast for the little Q to focus on.

I find the same problem when trying to focus on a white wall.
