06 will be coming!

An 06 will be on it's way to me tomorrow! I'm so impressed with the Q and the 01, but really wanted this lens!

So, what would you suggest for my next lens purchase? The 08 is too expensive; so am maybe thinking of the 02? In the future I plan on getting the Pentax Q K-mount, but that will have to wait for awhile.

What the Q really needs is a superzoom. Something like a 5-50mm or or 6-60mm. Better yet a 4.5-70mm. But those are just dreams. The Q is for the urban Japanese market, not the US market...

The 02 zoom is convenient. It's not as good IQ wise as the 01 prime, and it's longer, but it's handy.

It's a goody. I really like the 08 as well. Enjoy.

I'd love to have the 08, but it's way out of my reach. I'd rather put that kind of money towards lenses for my K3.

Looks like the 02 will be my next one.

I just bought an 08 on Amazon for $342. Prices for these lenses are way down. I paid 230 for an 06 last year and they can be had online for 140ish now.

C, think of the 08 as the Q version of the DA 12-24 and it's economical. It's the lens that makes the Q even fun-er to have with you.

However, if you just want a low cost addition that adds a whole new world to the Q's, pick up a set of 40.5mm close-up filters. Or a 40.5 - 49 step-up ring if you already have those. You won't stop playing with the 06 and the +10 filter.

Ignore the poo-pooing of these filters for this purpose - they're more than satisfactory compared to other options for the Q. Benefits? - you retain AF when it's feasible, there's no light lose and the +4 and +10 together are only about the size of the lens cap in your kit so they're always with me.

And in your backyard, a Q-PK or -S adapter plus an old, basic 105 or 135mm lens will give you some real 'legs'. Where else can you get 500+mm/f3.5-4 for < $100.

You made a good choice picking the 06 as your second lens. I have been using Qs for a long time and the 06 has always been my favorite. Be sure to consider carefully picking up the 08 next. It is an absolutely astounding lens. The 01, 06 and 08 are among the gems of Pentax. I rarely use the 02.

That $342 would do me most good in applying it towards another lens for the K3. I only paid $125 for the 06 from a great member here.

Pacerr, good suggestions. As I mentioned in the future I do want to get a Q K-mount, so that I can use some of the current lenses I have for my K3.

Mike, thank you! I'm pretty excited; and the member selling it is such a nice person, and has gone the extra mile!

Mikesul, down the road I'll definitely get the 08, but not right now.

I've had fun with several relatively small AdaptAll lenses, including #59A {28-70mm} and #58A {70-210mm}. I've used both a standard AdaptAll KA-mount adapter and a new made-in-China AdaptAll Q-mount adapter.

The price is usually under $50 without the adapter - many are under $30.

The 02 is a good lens, but the 08 is superb - and it takes 49mm filters which is a boon if you want to get the most out of landsQapes.

By all means get the 02 for now, but a time will come when you won't be able to resist the 08

Carol, the 02 gets a less-than-stellar report from some quarters, but I really enjoy it. Like all things with the Q-cameras, expectation setting is key. As a variable aperture "kit lens", it's a very good piece of kit indeed, and capable of producing excellent images. I recommend it, if that wide-to-normal focal length range is of interest to you. As an aside, the build quality is excellent, and while that makes no difference to the IQ, it *does* make it a very enjoyable lens to use
