Noise Reduction Acceleration Unit

One of the things about the newly-announced K-70 that has caught my attention is the apparently new chip used in it.
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/16-pentax-news-rumors/323475-pentax-k-70-...ator-unit.html

Pentax has done a lot of marketing-speak about it, but very little in the way of actual facts; however, appearances are that they are using this chip to make the newly-available "insanely high" ISO values worth having.
Presumably they could put the same chip in a "Q" also - in fact, that might make a lot of sense if they are paying a volume-based price for the chip. I'm thinking that a Q-S2, which was "just" a Q-S1 with EVF and this chip added, might be a seriously good improvement in the breed.

Might be cool- but do the Q's even have room for PRIME? Whatever Pentax's next move with the Q will be, I bet it will be a big one, though.

Does closing the file and forgetting about the camera series count as a "big move", too?
I think Q still has a lot of potential, but it has stiff competition. Noise is a problem for such tiny cameras in general, so OP is doing some interesting mental exercises.

The Q line has certainly failed outside of Japan. I guess we'll see where it's headed soon. Would love to see it kept alive, for the sake of existing users if nothing else.

By the standards that the Q line "failed" outside of Japan, almost every other non-645 Pentax product for the past 5-10 years has failed as well.

Looks like the K-1 might turn things around, but it's not like any of the Pentax dslrs have set the world on fire. Even the modest success of the k-5 was miniscule compared to the sales of its larger competitors' equivalent models.

Even not equivalent models. 50,000 D810 preorders at B&H alone . . . .

That's certainly true in the US. I've shot Pentax since 2010, and if I've seen another Pentax DSLR in the wild, I can't remember. Maybe I never have.

I certainly hope so. It would be nice to see Pentax regain at least some of its former prestige as a photography giant.
