which ir remote??

I tried 3 ir remotes and none worked for the pentax q. They all claimed compatibility.

JJC works with my K-30 perfectly. It's relaiable.
(Don't forget to set the camera to remote drive mode.)

The Pentax O-RC1 control works fine with the Q7, K-5, K-3... haven't tried it with the K-3II but I assume it works on that too...

Pentax O-RC1 works with all Q series. but not all buttons will.
It it better than the F for transmit range, it's WR, only downside is battery unchangeble. but it's supposed to give some dozen thousands shots. i've got two and use them a lot, best choice.

The remote control F also says you cannot replace the battery, all you need is a screwdrive that fits the tiny screw and it's quite easy.

Might as well add something useful here.

Looks like the Q-S1 can stop video recording via IR, where as the Q only starts video recording. (unless I missed something else)

I use "DSLR Remote" app on my LG G4, it work with the K30, the K3 and the K1.

Before that, i bought a not so cheap 12usd universal remote from target (targus brand i believe) that one work with the k30 and the k3, i still need to use use it with the K1, once i remember where i left that remote....

I have a JJC it works fine with the Q and K-01. Battery in it was a bit weak but I replaced it and it works even better, much better range now.
