Just got a Pentax Q.

And it's like I discovered the Super 110 all over again. I've got my new carry-around camera.

I returned last night from an eight-day road trip. Skipping the details, I had to travel very light, so I had a small messenger bag containing my driving glasses plus my Q-7 kit, and a backpack containing everything else. This "baggage" completely met my needs, which is just a long way of saying I agree that a "Q" is very useful as a travel companion.

And if you use an adapter to pair it with a 300mm, this is possible!

I got the basic Q model, the first one. (Really good price on a demo, which seems to be essentially new)

I've since got the adaptors for K-mount, c-mount, and 110 lenses. I used to love the 110 system, and the Q seems to fit right into that niche. The 110 lenses are great on the Q, as are some c-mount lenses. I'm not really pleased with the results from k-mount lenses, but that's probably a learning curve issue.

If you ask me you did good there. I first bought the QS-1 Champagne/Gold together with the 02 Standard Zoom for $238. I thought the colour of the camera wouldn't bother me but sadly it did. When I stumbled across a brand new original Q with the 01 Standard Prime, complete in box for $140 I bought it instantly and returned the QS-1.

Yes, maybe the specs and features of the QS-1 outshines the original Q but the feel of holding the original Q is totally different. I really like my discreet little Q, it's best feature is that it's always with me.

Just got back from a trip. It was great using the Q, with so little bulk to carry.

The camera I compare to the Auto 110 is the Panasonic GM1 because of its four thirds sensor, but I just bought a Q10 today so we will see...now I need to find an adaptor.

Delivered yesterday

So far, it's been a fun little camera. Definitely a "power point and shoot." The tiny sensor is great with C mount lenses of all types. I tried it with a 16mm f/1.6 and a 8-80 f/1.2 zoom (220mm equivalent on micro four thirds, my usual point of reference) with good results - both lenses are below the diffraction limit (isn't that about f/2?)

The 02 zoom seems a little big compared to the C mounts! That and I'm not used to a non-locking backwards zoom with the release button on the other side. Reminds me a little of the 20-40mm 110 lens the way it works. It would be nice if there was more of a choice of "native" lenses, although I have a good collection of C mount glass.

I'm not sure where you get this "diffraction limit" from. My backyard tests clearly showed that my Sigma 70-300 performs best at f/8 - presumably that is where sum of slowly improving image because of using best part of lens plus slowly worsening image because of diffraction is optimal for that lens. Other lenses will give different results. Also note that "01" is only native q-mount lens which opens as wide as f/2, so Pentax must not see f/2 as much of a limit.
