And the macro lens disappears . . .

The topic came up in the News and Rumors section,
but it may bear repeating here:

The Q roadmap with the promise of the 09 telephoto macro
has been pulled from the Ricoh mothership,
replaced with a "Q-Mount Lens Line Up"
that only shows the 01 through 08:

http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/japan/products/lens/images/Q_Mount_Lens.pdf

This does not bode well.

Development of the Q system is currently "on hold". Not discontinued, though.

Several of us who appreciate what the Q system can do
have been busy stocking up on spare bodies and lenses.

And hopefully the Fuji batteries will stay around for a while.

But unfortunately, we will never have a native AF macro
as a convenient alternative to adapting K-mount lenses.

The camera companies try to "recycle" batteries by using them in new camera models. This keeps them available in the future. Sometimes they have to change batteries to keep up with Govt. safety rules, etc. Besides Fuji, I also have a Kodak that uses the same Q battery.

The Q macro lens may still show up some day. May not make sense to have it on a chart, when they have no idea what the Q system specs will be. I remain hopeful. Not even sure we need a macro lens. It would be nice, but we can do macro many ways besides adapted lens on Q>PK adapter. There are close up filters and the automatic extension tubes. Both keep AF, flash and all the other premium lens benefits.
Thanks

Has anyone been able to get those to work successfully?
I only remember bad news about the Kooka tubes for the Q mount.

The Kooka tubes are too long to work with most Q lenses. The best choice is the #06 15-45mm lens. Phil Zucker posted about it here. I find this must read Q info!

Shall we blame FF development taking priority?

That and the fact that the camera failed to sell well outside of Japan. They're looking at ways that might fix that.

Think the distinction is Pentax is still manufacturing/selling the current Q lenses, accessories, and Q-S1 camera. Discontinuation would probably close the Q system out and be finished. I am willing to wait for Pentax to devise a new plan for the Q.

Thanks

Is it because smartphone cameras haven't had as big an impact on camera sales in Japan? Or is the impact about the same?

An uphill battle for sure. How well did the Auto 110 do in the US? I suppose the Q may be analogous.

I'm not sure, but the understanding is that Q marketing has been suspended in the US. They definitely have some research to do!

a new plan for the Q.
My plan for a new "Q", more or less...
...a 1" sensor Q with a EVF - done. I would buy it.

Nikon failed hard with that plan...
