Thanks Binth !
Yes, impressive 2 ways verified numbers for these Pentaxung cameras...

Sorry I was so loooong for the page #2... but we had a Very Very Warm Endless 3-Weeks !
Early morning at 27°C... Late evening at 30°C... very hard to sleep few moments...
Totally unthinkable from my North Celtic origin ~17°C Max Summer !
I tried AstroPhotos, my HEQ5's Electronics shut off...

My old PC-XP had overheat problems too : Unable to find the photos I took 3, 5, 7 years ago...
So I decided to begin with the Most Recent ILC I dealt with : the Samsung NX mini !
Thus, I downloaded the 2 Main Pictures I posted on forums for this ILC...

So here is the Samsung NX-mini IR-Cut Filter Removal page just uploaded :
http://mecastronics.free.fr/SamsungNXminiTOP.html
NX-mini is Top-Camera + Pro-Sensor...
~$150, unbelievable !

You found something wrong, incomplete, contradictory, don't hesitate to mail it to me

Hi geo444, great astro work with your Q10 !

I am also interested in removing the IR cut filter over the Q sensor.
In my case I'd like the extra spectral sensitivity and need the room to mount a very short back focus fisheye lens, but haven't been able to see how to easily remove it.
If you achieve this, please let us know!

I disassembled mine, you can see here (along with exploded diagrams):

Thank you very much KayakFari !

Did you see (page-2) the Q10 succeeded with Messier-57 in Lucky-Imaging Mode ?
- Lucky-imaging Q10 Mode was 1 or 2 sec Exposures @ ISO 6400 -
Q10 did preserve M57's whole set of RastaFari Colors :
M57's RastaFari full Color set from special Super-Pixel Mode
M57's RastaFari full Color set from standard Bilinear Interpolation
RastaFari flag : Red-Yellow-Green
[/humor]

I did remove its IR-cut filter when I shot IC-5146
Pentax Q10 succeeded with IC-5146 = Invisible Nebula
30 sec. exposure @ ISO 1600, I couldn't see anything but Stars...
Even after 56 x 30 sec. stacked, one can hardly guess the Cocoon Nebula

This was ~4 years ago, the How-To is archived on my old PC-XP :
My previous post just above
but as it's a very important Modification for Astro-Photo,
I'll add a detailed full page on my site ASAP !
(weather back down to usual T°C next saturday)

Jah BLESSed the M57 Nebula!! lol
Very perceptive of you geo444!

I'm not sure I understand, you are not able to access my site?
You shouldn't have any trouble accessing a wordpress.com site unless your local provider is blocking it for some reason?

I'm really curious how you removed the IR filter? Is it just glued on, and you pried it off? I didn't want to force it since it's attached to the SR unit!

You've done some really phenomenal work with the Q continuum my friend!

Would also like to know how the filter is removed geo444. A while back I saw a youtube video where the guy roughly cut the filter out of the sensor shield! This left the shield structure. Meant to go back and check it out. Can't find it now.
Thanks,
barondla

I totally succeeded in that huge work inside the Q10 FW :

Files, Functions Statistics, Call Statistics, Symbol Map :
+ 0268 HTML Files : Calls are hyperlinks
+ 2886 Total Functions
+ 3197 Call Targets
+ 1185 Map Symbols
= 130 MB of Files to work with... that I will email to every FirmWare Hacker who asks for
Just remember it's a MIPS RISC Processor inside the Pentax Q(x) !

A " C " De-Compiler would have been more useful in issuing " Friendly Readable " Smaller files...
But I never could find a " C " or " Pascal " De-Compiler tool for free ?
Who knows one that reads MIPS objects ?
???

I would like to give this a go would you share your previous work? Jeb decompiler seems to be able to create psuedo code...

Now I'm able to access your site with Both Providers I have : it's Not a Local Problem !
I'm taking a look at your Pentax Q disassembly operation... Very Useful !
Is there a place to discuss these Access Problems on Pentaxforums/forums ?

You shouldn't bother about the Q IR-filter, I'll write a page as detailed as I already did...

I was affraid to Forget or to Loose important infos or tips about the Pentax Q10 FW Disassembling

Improve (DIY) your Pentax-Samsung camera : mecastronics.free.fr

Thanks Barondla !

Now You & Everyone else are able to Disassemble the Q10 v1.03 FW !
- just go to : Pentax-Q10-FirmWare-disassembly
- please, read the page, just to know what's where...
- download the 10 first files of the disassembly = DisasQ10v103.zip (0.57MB)
you'll get the necessary mapfile.txt and 3 other useful .txt files...
- download the 2 hacks of Acade's disassembler : DisasMips012.zip (0.05 MB)
the original disasmips0.exe from Acade couln't handle the huge FW size...
- simply folowing the indications : just redo my Dec-15-2014's disassembly !
- you want to compare your 270 resulting files with mine :
please write to the mail@ in the 'Help-Astro' page
and I'll send you the 270 files.zip (35 MB)

Be the 1st to disassemble the Firmwares of the Q, Q7, QS-1 !

Who starts to download DisasQ10v103.zip & DisasMips012.zip just to check ?

Thanks !

The Pentax Q(x) with their tiny sensors are Not at their best for Wide Field Astro-Photography
for Wide Field, you'd better use an APS-C (or a FF) sensor !
+ you'd find more choice in (Ultra-)Wide-Angle lenses for large sensors (Samy)

But the Pentax Q(x) with their tiny sensors are at their Best for Long Reach Astro-Photography
Why ?
Simply because thousands of Deep Sky Small Objects will Never fill an APS-C sensor !
Even mounted on a very affordable SkyWatcher 1000mm Newtonian !
+ these tiny sensors are Very Sensitive ~ DxO ISO 5680 FF-Equivalent for the 1/2.3" in the Pentax Q, Q10 !

a Pentax Q10 w/ the Pentax Adapter on a Skywatcher 200/1000 Newtonian :
= 50 x 30 seconds @ ISO 1600 stacked with DSS 3.2
it's Messier 27 Nebula at 1350 L-Y :

Other (9) Long Reach Astro-Photographies taken with a Pentax Q10 :
The Astro-Q Club! - Page 10 - PentaxForums.com

Good Luck !
Geo444 did you see these new tiny sensor astro cams? They have a smaller sensor than the original Q, if the mentioned 7.2 crop calculation is correct. Reading the comments is illuminating. Some have no idea why a small sensor is useful in astrophotography. A shame.

Any idea how the Q would perform vs these Tiny cameras?

Hi Barondla !
Yes, I did some research about their Sensor... but couldn't find any infos ?

What they call Astro-Photography on DPR is generally " Under the Sky " - Night-Landscapes :
Nikon D810A: An astrophotographer's perspective: Digital Photography Review
so they can't appreciate the usefulness of Small Sensors...

Geo444 no idea about the sensor. Didn't think any camera or phone had a smaller sensor than original Q. The comments by some readers were depressing.

Sorry to hear your site is down. Hope it returns soon.

Maybe the smallest among these New Sony Sensors :
Products Line up for Camera Image Sensor for Camera | Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation
an 1/3" or an 1/2.5" Sensor ?

Now you know the way to discover What Sensor inside this cam.
Pentax Q for astrophotography beginner? - Page 3 - PentaxForums.com
you just have to Download its FirmWare...

Relative Area of Astro-Cams and Cameras Sensors :
1/3" is a little more than half a 1/2.3" (Q, Q10)
1/3" is a little less than half a 1/1.7" (Q7)
