Replacement for my Q?

I absolutely love this little outfit, however not being able to see anything in daylight in the LCD, has me rarely using it any more. I don't want a big, bulky addition "viewfinder", as that defeats the small size.

What similar sized camera would you recommend for me? I don't really need interchangeable lenses, for my 2nd camera.

Pretty much all of the bridge cameras have EVF...

The Panasonic GM5 (ILC) is only slightly larger than the Q and has an EVF.

I'm sure other people will come up with suggestions...

have you tried the optical viewfinder, makes framing easier and cheaper than a new camera.

No, as the Pentax one is around $150. Also all I've seen are for a specific lens, fisheye, normal, etc., I use a couple of lenses on my Q, so don't know how they would work, including my zoom lens.

A little experimenting gives you the feel for other than standard lens , then you chimp away to check how much or little you are getting. It works like those old film cameras with a couple of lines in the viewfinder, you just imagine the extra lines needed for different lenses. Keep hunting the ads and you should find one cheaper, mine came from Italy

I definitely don't want to put too much money into one, that I only use once in a while. I plan on getting a K3 replacement soon, so I'll have the K3 as backup; so that's where I'd spend a lot of money.

I may look for one of those view finders & give it a try.

Good question, but I'm afraid I don't have an answer to it.

If only Pentax had ditched the pop up flash and added a pop up evf. I would use an evf for almost every shot, the flash I hardly ever use, and it could have been added as a tiny clip on flash instead. But no, Ricoh/Pentax, gave us the K-01, MX-1, Q, Q10, Q7, Q-S1 GR and GRii every single one without a built in pop up or even clip on electronic viewfinder. I do have the clip on ovf for the Q but it's a waste of time with anything other than the standard lens, wrecks the otherwise compact design, and it's not all that accurate at framing the shot, especially on the Q-7 or Q-S1. The smaller GV-2 however, does a decent job on the GR but also destroys its neat form factor.

Clearly the sun never shines in Japan and no one there uses reading glasses for close up viewing.

Apologies for the negativity, I otherwise do like, and when conditions permit, use most of the cameras listed above, but it can be very frustrating!

Heres what I use on my Q7, works great. Had the little Q out today in bright sunshine, no problems. You bring the camera to your eye, use one hand to block top light or a ball hat will work.

For replacement, what I did was get an Olympus EM10 or mark2, put on a Lumix 12-32 and you have a camera that fits in your pocket. Get the cheap 35-100 Lumix and you got a two lens set that takes way better shots than a Q and takes up less room than a 01,02 and 06 set

With something almost as large as the camera defeats the purpose of having a small camera.

Well, I've tried everything, and for me, in bright sunlight I cannot see the display, period.

Now that's interesting!

csa, have you gone into the menu and set the lcd display for maximum brightness? That and a ball cap usually work for me.
Thanks,
