Worth getting a Pentax MX-1 if you already own a Q?

Anyone here have both that can share their opinions?

I am on the edge of my seat.

They’re totally different animals. IMO the MX-1 has better IQ and is easier to handle. It has an articulating Screen. The Q is really small for my hands and useful more for fun that seriously.

I’ve sold my Q’s and MSX-1 is For Sale.

I have both. For me the Q7 gets used a lot when traveling. While the MX-1 is an excellent travel camera too, I mostly use it for closeups and product photography. The 1cm macro mode is a real delight to shoot with. And the articulating screen is nice. I sometimes wish the Q had that.

So in my case the MX-1 is mostly useful because I haven't invested in a K-mount macro lens.

The single most positive aspect of the camera from many reviews was the Macro Mode and its ease with the articulated screen. The most common negative is the write to file time and the shutter lag. I looked on eBay and they are going for about 2x what they were selling for when they were on clearance a few years ago.

What are you using in place of the Q.
Thanks,

It was this video that alerted me to the existence of the MX-1. The motorised lens is a fast 6mm at f1.8 to 24mm at an unmatched f2.5. It even has a tilting screen! (And cat’s meow) I wonder if a fast modern SD card helps solve the slow RAW write time that seems to be the only down side.

Read Adams review here. He tried a pro grade card. Sadly, It didn't help.

I have owned one for quite awhile now and really like it. You can actually learn to work around the shutter lag and the slower write speeds have never bothered me. The in camera panorama stitching feature is very nice and the macro mode is indeed very good. On top of that it's B&W capabilities are excellent. It is a very handy little camera to carry around.

The only real minus for me is the lack of either an optical or electrical view finder for use in bright sun. Not a deal killer for me. A few shots from it over the years. The panoramic stitch shot is Canandaigua Lake. One of the Finger Lakes in western NY.

I just hit a silly quirk of the Q finding bulb mode does not let you shoot longer than 32s.

Is it the same on the MX-1?

So close to pulling the trigger...
