06 Lens autofocus dead

Hello everybody,

I have bought the beautiful 06 lens from eBay from a very nice Japanese seller. After paying the custom duties... ugh, and getting it from the post I enjoyed it a lot for about 4 hours. Then to my big dread the AF stopped working.

The very nice Japanese seller has reimbursed me the lens without any fuss at all.

I have researched the issue and found no answer except "buy another one". Is this a known issue and more importantly, is there a fix for it ?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

It is a known issue and no, probably not. Usually they go completely dead, you can't even manually focus. Mine went out after about 4 hours of use as well, although that might be a coincidence.
I've bought two more, they have been OK so far.

I think that the 06 was just a little under-engineered; it seems flimsy compared to the 01, the 02 and the 08. Some posters here haven't had any problems with theirs, maybe it was a bad run?

I took my broken one apart and it is all plastic and circuitry inside, I think the circuitry goes bad for some reason.

Gee whiz, didn't know about that -- just got back from a hiking trip with mine -- better be careful.

Sorry to hear that. My 06 has never had a problem but given the build I guess it may not be here for the long haul. I have the Cosmicar/Pentax 8-48/f1.0-1.2 that could cover my needs. I would lose nothing in IQ but I would miss the autofocus of the 06.

Can you share some photos of the insides? I would find such an 06 still useful for parts salvage if only the focussing failed.

Don’t bother contacting Pentax/sending it to Germany....they told me to, and then when it arrived they confirmed they didn’t have the parts to fix it....they wanted to charge me to get it posted back!! - Told them to bin it!!

Thanks everybody for all the great responses. I have finally decided to wait a bit until I find a nice opportunity on a Q7 limited kit with the 6 lenses.😃

Anyone with a dead 06, please donate to me as I need such a sample to tear down to see if the shutter mechanism can be repurposed and transplanted into an electronic Pentax Q adaptor for Pentax 110 lenses. Be happy to share my findings here for all.
I’ll gladly pay postage.

I recently dropped my 06 and it's broken badly. Thinking about selling it on the market place for dirt cheap

I was trying to sell my Pentax 8-48mm f/1.0-1.2 but now I think I'm gonna keep it lol
