A manual 70, 75, 80, 90, or 100mm tele (sort of like a Q "toy" lens, but with an iris) should be easy to do but, as you noted, Copal, who built the Q lenses, is out of the market and I don't think Ricoh/Pentax has the Q system on their radar at all. The Q mount and the Q7/Q-S1 sensor are still worthwhile, but what manufacturer would develop new cameras or lenses for it?

I'd love to see a mini-503 Hasselblad in a Q mount with a 20mp Sony MX 531 square sensor.

I would be glad to hear that “Copal” still exists - even as part of a larger, less needful, company, but there is still no evidence that anyone {besides us} is still thinking of producing Q-mount. For example, apparently Metabones engineered a K-mount to Q-mount version of their “speed booster” adapter, but never saw producing them as a good business move. Apparently, they designed it mainly to prove that they could do such a thing; B&H has sat my ‘pre-order’ since July 2020.

Metabones is still offering Q-mount:

This, of course, has nothing to do with the crowdfunding that might follow a worldwide expansion of the new Ricoh strategy.

I have a couple AdaptAll lenses that would be high on my list to use with a Metabones adapter.
I’ve known all along that I could purchase F-mount ‘back-ends’ and then use them with a version of the Metabones adapter,
BUT I refuse to even consider that as a matter of principle. I really do not need the extra performance.
My original motivation was to encourage Metabones’s producing a K-mount to Q-mount device,
and I feel that purchasing this device would go contrary to that. I mention Metabones only to show how little
the photo world in general thinks of the Q-mount and how little we should expect the 08 to benefit from this new strategy.

The gist of this thread is that the Q-mount 08 is highly regarded, fully sold out, and now hard to obtain. But if you like to wallow in gloom, that is your privilege.

It is not gloom to observe that no one thinks of producing Q-mount - not even Pentax - no matter how much a few of us desire it.
I use my cameras, instead of talking about what could have been.

I thought the lens was too much at $350 when I was using the camera regularly. I reconsidered it for a trip to Europe and now it is well over $600. Too rich for my blood.

What would be a good replacement for the 08, small size; as the 08 is priced way over my head? (Now close to $1,000!!!.

The 02 is 5mm @f2.8 and is very good at the wide end, although not as wide as the 08.. I have an 08, and I use the 02 more. At 1/10 the price the 02 is hard to beat.

There are 4mm cctv lenses, but they are usually in CS mount and are generally 5 mp resolution, not nearly good enough. There are 4mm fisheye lenses for m4/3, but they are hard to adapt and are probably not as good as the 08.

The 03 Fisheye is also cheap, and quite good if you take the trouble to focus it properly.

Have you asked on the forums, "want to buy" for an 08?
I cant imagine paying that much for an 08 lens, hell I would sell my whole QS-1, 01,02,03,06,08, wide and tele for less than that.

While the 02 will cover the narrow end of the 08, although with less quality at close focus distances, it won't match the wide end of the 08. Defished in PP, the 03 will.

I prefer rectilinear.
I get by with the 02; it is better than it’s reputation.
It is like not having anything wider than 15mm on my KP;
I seldom want anything wider in any case.
