Nisi P1 square filter system for Use on a Pentax Q

So I picked up the Nisi P1 Prosories for smartphones filter kit with intentions to fit the contraption onto the Q. 😀

Preview with it sat on the 08 and my Q-S1:

Great, congrats! What about vignetting with 02 & 08? Is there any?

The NiSi P49 version of their P1 mini square filter system has a 49mm thread that matches the Pentax 08 lens perfectly.

https://nisiopticsusa.com/product/nisi-p49-49mm-filter-holder-for-compact-cameras/

Good news for Q and Q10 owners, with the 08 lens, to my eyes, the NiSi mounts right out of the box with no vignetting throughout the zoom range!

How about at the widest end of the 08 lens on a larger sensor Q-S1? So yes, there is vignetting at 3.8mm.

However, by simply zooming to 4.3mm and upwards, the vignettes get out of frame on a Q-S1. So basically usable through most of the 08 zoom range.

I tried a workaround, hand holding the filter glass in the front of the 08 lens without the p49 mount. Sure enough, no vignettes at 3.8mm on my Q-S1. Need a steady hand though as the filters are glass and could shatter if dropped.

I have some ideas to customise a mount to make it work better at the 08’s widest setting with a Q-S1. Will come back when I work it all out.

Thanks to paulie_ who asked what soft grad could be used with the Q. I would not have found this NiSi system otherwise.

Thank you! Good news.
It's completely another solution (not so elegant), but maybe some gooseneck with a clip could help with holding the filter in the front of 08 lens. Just screw into the tripod thread, the horizont will be adjustable. The filter would have to be moved manually when zooming. On the other hand, it would be easy to take the filter out of the shot.

Loaded with 2 filters, the Nisi holder transports nicely in it’s box.

Note this is the same 49mm threaded holder as recently revised for the Ricoh GRiii (earlier version just friction fitted and would fall off upon lens retraction.) Should be pretty adaptable for a lot of small compact cameras for those willing to experiment.

Encouraged by my preliminary findings mounting directly onto the wider Pentax 08 lens, I’d assumed the narrower view standard 02 would have been plain sailing. Not quite. I am utilising an old no-brand 40.5-49mm metal step up ring, so the Nisi holder now seats further out from the front element

It’s mostly fine with a 02 on a Q/Q10. Only a hint of dim corners at the widest 5mm end, that clears up at 5.5mm.

On a QS-1 though, my step up ring combined is clearly introducing more vignettes between 5m and 6.5mm.

Handholding the bare filter does away with the vignettes at the wide end.

So no serious concerns when using on a Q/Q10. Ideally I would like to get the Nisi holder closer to the 02’s front element for it to work better at the wide end on a QS-1.

Will be trying on the 01 prime next.

Made from plasti-card. Prototype adaptor that fits directly onto the Pentax 08 wide lens hood bayonet to evade vignettes. Happy it works. Fits perfectly in the p49 carry box.

Just need paint it flat black.
