Help! My 06 has stopped focusing!!

I pulled it out today to take some cool shots and it would not focus under any circumstance, and the manual focus ring does nothing.

The camera just survived an airline flight but hasn’t had any major impacts or anything. 06 worked before I left. What could be wrong?

Charles.

Do you have other lenses that still work on that body?

Although it is one of my favorite Q lenses, unfortunately, 06s often show this behavior. No fix that I have found other than to buy a replacement.

Yes every other lens works and focuses properly.

I don’t even think I took a hundred photos with the lens

I’m looking for broken faulty AF focussing Pentax Q lens for donation (working shutter closing though) to allow for Frankenstein adaptor experiments. Will pay postage and credit the donor with any follow up posts.

How much would a repair cost, do you think? I got a new gray market 06 lens for $133 on Amazon, which seems pretty cheap compared to what I spent on the lens back when it first came out. I'm thinking probably cheaper than a repair.

Also, I'm sad that the Pentax Q has essentially gone the same way as the Pentax Auto 110

Sadly I don't think there is a repair option for any Q series lens. If it breaks it is now junk.

I came across this post while researching a new problem for me.
I currently have 5 Q-mount lenses - a 01 that I purchased separately, a 02 that I purchased separately, a 02 that came with my Q-S1, and 02, 06 that came with my Q-7. Without notice, my 06 suddenly stopped focusing - neither I nor a Q-kit had gone anywhere. Both AF and MF fail when the 06 is on either body. My other lenses work normally. I believe something has failed within the 06 and it is trash. This seems to just be a weakness of the 06 lens. Maybe I can find a 02, 06 set that comes with a body, but that seems like an expensive way to ‘fix’ the problem; I don’t need another body, and I certainly don’t need yet another 02 lens. I may just continue to use a adopted AdaptAll 28-70mm lens when a 02 lens doesn’t provide the “range” I need.

Much belated, Steven, but, right you are . All my Q repairs consisted of purchasing new items

I've suffered the same problem, I hadn't shot more than 50 images with my 06 when it went bust. There seem to be plenty of new and used ones in Japan for $100-125, I ended up getting another one and a spare. So far, so good, with my new ones.

I've found myself using a Pentax 110 50mm lens or a 50mm Cosmicar lens, manual focus, of course.

I now have found and purchased second 06 on eBay;
just over $100 wasn’t too bad.

Just like the ‘made in Japan’ solenoids for lower tier K-bodies,
we can live off the used market only so long.

That is true, although I think there may be a nearly infinite supply of Q10s.

I've looked inside the 06 and it is all welded plastic. The bodies are modular, I've got and extra Q-S1 and three Q-7s, so I would have a chance if one or more went down

Yesterday morning I woke up owning a yellow/black Q-7 and a gold/white Q-S1, three 02 lenses, and one non-working 06.
Last evening I purchased a working 06.
When I woke up this morning, eBay was ‘flogging’ a silver/ black Q-7, with about 1K activations and both 02, 06 lenses - so I purchased it also.
So, in about a week or so, I will have three “Q”s and two working 06 lenses.
My intention is to put the two “Q”s and one of the 06 lenses away.
I have always wanted a silver/black “Q” - it looks so much like the rangefinder camera I owned 50 years ago,
and this will provide me with my own supply of ‘spares’.

I've got a silver/black Q7 as well, it really matches the silver Q lenses as well as some old Cosmicar TV lenses I have.

I'm up to 5 bodies and 9 Q lenses, plus all the adapted ones.

I love the Qs!
