Q10 or QS1?

I'm thinking of getting a second Q, I have the original. What would the main advantages between these two bodies?

Thanks in advance!

The Q-S1 has a better sensor so I'd definitely favor it. The Q10 is basically the original with a plastic body.

We do have an in-depth review as well:

Ergonomically,the Q10 is much better.To get a feel of a QS1 turn your Q upside down and hold it.

I'd suggest the Q7,its same body as Q10 but with the advancements of QS1(apart from a minor video feature)

Right. Q-7 is the best of Q line.

If you shoot JPEG, I suggest the Q-S1, as it has a much improved JPEG engine (better colorsm better noise handling) compared to the Q7. Here are JPG images from a review site:

Q7:

Q-S1:

See my previous post here for more details. The Q-S1 is also faster in use, has more advanced features then the Q7 (1/8000s electronic shutter vs. 1/2000s, greatly improved autofocus for video) so it is indeed the most advanced of the Q series cameras (and I have them all!). As the common knowledge is that both models are equivalent and most people prefer the design of the Q7 over the Q-S1, it is therefore easier to find the better model for less money than its predecessor.

Cheers!

Abbazz

[EDIT] In fact, the max speed of the Q7 is 1/8000s, the same as the Q-S1 (this this post). Sorry for the confusion.

1/8000s is very useful in bright light if you want to keep the lens open to limit diffraction or to decrease depth of field. The Q7 is limited to 1/2000s, which is not similar to 1/8000s and can be a problem with fast adapted lenses in bright light. For example, my Kern Switar 13mm f/0.9 exhibits a lot of vignetting on the 1/1.7" sensor when stopped down, so I prefer to use it wide open. In bright sun, I have to use 1/4000s or 1/8000s to get a correct exposure, which is simply not possible with the Q7 due to its 1/2000s top speed.

Let me quote my previous post:

QuoteQuote:
Response time is better: less wait at switch-on, faster AF and speedier write times.

Here's a link to reviews (in French) demonstrating the differences:

- Q7
- Q-S1

The results of the tests conducted are quite clear IMHO. Let's have a look at the timings first.

Q7:

Low light focus: 1.13s
Telephoto focus: 0.46s
Wide angle focus: 0.54s
Photo1 -> photo2: 1.29s
OFF -> ON: 1.80s

Q-S1:

Low light focus: 0.83s
Telephoto focus: 0.32s
Wide angle focus: 0.47s
Photo1 -> photo2: 1.02s
OFF -> ON: 1.58s
Cheers!

I say QS1, I know the knob looks uncomfortable, however it really does feel easy to hold in the hand, the Q10 always felt cheap and plasticky to me, they are all great little cameras, but the QS1 is the pick of the bunch in my opinion, good luck in your choice

Q-S1 the best choice , had them all ,still have the original the Q - absolute marvel of engineering!
and still have Q-S1 for performance + fun.
I took Q-s1 few times to Europe with 01 + 06 and 08 and never really missed bigger sisters ( DSLR's ).
My European Family kids absolutely love my traveling kit.

I have both: Q-7 and Q-S1 and I shoot only RAW with processing by Adobe ACR later. And I did not notice any difference in image quality, but Q-7 feels better in my hands.

There’s no shutter speed difference between Q7 and Q-S1

Q7 goes up to 1/8000 in electronic shutter mode, too.
Q7 and Q-S1 are limited to 1/2000 in mechanical shutter mode.
