I've had limited success with off-brand batteries, although they generally don't hold quite as much of a charge and they tend have a shorter life-span. As far as value goes it is about a wash. Wasabi were the worst, so far Halcyon and Powerextra are holding up well and very cheap compared to Pentax.
Yesterday, I noticed that my “Wasabi” battery no longer would slip into my Q-S1, so I trashed it right away. I purchased it almost exactly seven years ago - at a time when my Canon Rebel died, and I thought I might have to depend on my Q-7 for awhile - so, “it didn’t owe me anything”.

I've had several swollen batteries over the years, all of them third-party, most of them supposedly decent brands (like your Wasabi) rather than nameless generic examples... but I've yet to have a single OEM battery do this. I wonder why that is... or have I just been extremely lucky?

I had some warning.
I was recharging the “extra” battery in the car using a usb charger I have.
There had been little progress showing, but I had little sense of how much there should be {how much driving I had actually done}.
The battery in my Q-S1 was almost dead, so it was time to switch, regardless.

Most batteries seem to say ‘made in China using cells made in Japan’; then comes some kind of inspection(s).
My theory is that there is a ‘pecking order’ - OEM producers get first choice, and charge us for it.
Since I do inspect them every time I switch them, I am willing to bear some of the risk.
