Ricoh introduces Q flash for GR - ouch!

Anyone else feel this is a slap in the face for owners of the discontinued Q camera system?

Thanks,
barondla

Not seeing any connection between this seemingly third-party flash and the Q system from Pentax.

We should not blame Ricoh. There is scarcity of letters in Latin alphabet.

This is the flash. And yes, third party. There's a special color model made to match the GRIII, which I'm a little unclear as to what involvement Ricoh has with it.

Also, it seems really cool, including probably (I didn't look too hard into compatibility, as I'm assuming if it works with the GRIII it works with Q) really cool to use with a Pentax Q camera. So I think its availability is only a good thing, and not a face slap for anybody.

This flash isn't a Ricoh product. Although it mentions TTL it doesn't seem to have any specific brands listed. The promotional videos show it being used on various brands. Other than selling it at Ricoh stores the only other Ricoh involvement might be with the matt black version that matches the GR body color.

Well, in a hope to somewhat alleviate your pain , even if Ricoh wanted, they couldn't have used that flash in time to promote Pentax Q series. The last of the Q series body, Pentax Q-S1, was launched in Aug/2014. OTOH, FlashQ Q20 was launched in May/2017. (It started as an Indiegogo project in 2015 but wasn't successful there.)

Anyway, some forum members bought FlashQ Q20 or Q20II for Q series cameras and they seem to be satisfied, search for FlashQ. I didn't buy partly because I wanted something with TTL that could also be used for my other Pentax cameras, but I always thought that the trigger looked really cool on Q7.

Yeah, I got one for my Q. You’d think matte black paint will scuff/ chip, so why bother… cheap way to revisit an existing product and help sell it again though. They should have had a built-in flash to start with.

A built-in flash is on the camera in your photo {upper right of the Q in your photo}.
I chose to use an old ‘auto’ flash I’ve had for many years - until I started using my K-30 for all flash photos.

Not bad, but here is already a good one with the Godox 350 which has HSS, PTTL and RF wireless via a cheap controller unit.

I meant for the Ricoh camera which is the subject of this thread. Why’d they skip on a built-in flash for that model.

Yeah, why did they skimp on having a built-in flash with PTTL for the GR? I think the predecessor had it.

Probably to keep size down, not?

They don’t make things for me.
I would prefer that the “Q” include a viewfinder, but I can {and do} purchase one.
I worry only about the things too expensive {or difficult} to add on, and don’t fuss about the others.
