Help with pricing Photos for State Fair

Hope this is in the right section of the forums.

I plan to enter a couple of prints in our state fair in October and am trying to figure out where to set the asking price.

Does anyone have a formula they use to determine the an asking price? The prints are framed with a black frame and white mat, nothing too fancy but I do have about $70 in each print. One is a 10x14 and the other is a 16x20.

I was thinking about doubling what the print and framing cost me. Not looking to get rich off of these, of course, but would like to ask what is reasonable.

Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

As long as your costs are covered, you get reasonable compensation for your work, and people will see prices they are willing to pay, you'll be in good shape. $150 sounds like a reasonable price.

I've entered framed prints in state fairs in the past and have won some blue and red ribbons, however my set prices were 50% over my costs and I sold nothing. State fairs in general are terrible for sales and marketing. Keep you margin fairly thin.

Sounds like an interesting venture. Please let us know how you make out. With the fall season upon us, there are many opportunities to do this type of stuff with festivals popping up.
