WerTicus's front page blog post.

Here is the discussion about my blog post on the forum front page right now:

The Largest Pentax Camera Forum and Review Site - PentaxForums.com Home

I've shot a grand total of 3 weddings now and have one more booked!
I'll answer any questions / comments here.

Most shots are with the K-5, but a significant portion are with the K-x.
Most shots are with DA limited primes.

Firstly, congrats Nathan, and a fine account of your quick entrance to the pro scene.
Look forward to your 645D/K-5 comparison notes...

I certainly cannot believe how fast things are happening... Since the Pentax article went up we've been getting 150 hits an hour to the website!

I'm looking forward to playing with the 645d also, I have it from Friday arvo till Monday morning, so I'm going to have to organise a shoot for the Sunday too and not just the wedding to get maximum value.

I just had a look at your work oz... some nice stuff in there.

The only critique i have is that some of your horizon lines are not level.

You'll love the 645D!

What lens or lenses are you getting with it?

If you get the 55-110 zoom double check your focus and chimp the results carefully - with the decrease in DOF due to the larger distance of optics to sensor it is VERY easy to miss the shot with that lens ...... at least it was for me.

The new 2.8/55 is pin sharp and I love this lens.

I think they've got a 150mm prime and a few others in there as well, but haven't tried them .... loving the 55mm prime too much and have a 3.5/30mm making it's way to me from The Netherlands.

3 things to watch for:
- Make sure you've got enough memory!!
Around the 20 Mb mark for a hi-res jpg and 40-50 Mb for a raw file, so worst case scenario you shoot Raw+jpg and chew through 70Mb or more per shot.
- If you "chimp" a lot you'll need to change that, the write time to the card is slow in comparison to a DSLR, so make sure you've got some conversation starters or comments up your sleeve while you wait for the preview to show.
- In my opinion, the 645D is as good as everyone says it is, even better, so be prepared to fork out $12K or more, or forever be dissapointed with "only" 17 Mpixels or less.

I'm getting the 55mm with it.

But I might grab a 150 if they have one there at the time i pick it up.

I'll have the K-5 around my neck too as back up / different focal length.

The image size and resolution allows a lot or room for cropping, so just having a 55mm isn't too big an issue when it comes to focal lengths.

Watching that smaller DOF can catch you out though - my typical studio set-up was 1/125th and F8 on a DSLR, but F8 is too shallow on the 645D and I was getting a sharp tip of the nose and slightly blurry eyes ...... at F8!! Using the 55-110 was even easier to miss the shot, especially when you've got a new toy to play with that you're not 100% used to.
