That is what they count on. Your fear equals obedience.

Maybe that,or maybe they "shake the tree to see what falls out"

@Mike,Didnt view video, nor did I follow up.Was with what is admitedly biased
assumption that something along line of what you describe would happen, inevietably.
Is it a flaw in system?I dont feel so.Was a human being provoked into rash act
when that human being should know better? Only speculation on my part to
try and answer own question, besides, thats what juries are for.

It takes 5 minutes to watch the video. The police were clearly concerned with being taped in the course of a false arrest, not safety since they went out of their way to shine their lights into the camera. The man they were handcuffing on camera was released. This woman has a very serious case.

I'd say it was just bad judgment on the part of an individual officer, except that it is happening all over the country. A number of colleagues ended up volunteering to bring suits for free against some officers here who were doing the same thing to people who recorded their reaction to anti-war protests.

Right in middle of it on Lindell Blvd. here once, brings back some memories.
Look back on it and having 40 odd years to forget more than reflect,
what I do remember was (not photographers) but provocateers doing just
that and police exercising poor 'judgement',and thats being polite.Wasnt
chicago, but nasty enough.Turned into a 3 way free for all when construction
workers decided to exercise first amendment rights.A matter of fact, dont
recall many photogs around at that particular time, all hell broke loose and
a whole bunch of folks scattered.

back to current...provocateer is a provocateer, this time armed with camera,
she undoutedly knew she would provoke.Bad judgment is bad judgment
and she got it.As your probably right, the end result wll be punitive reward in her favor.
Worse thing is,taxpayers have to pay for whole mess.

You're right. How dare somebody take something as provoking and threatening as a camera out in public. Clearly what we need is stricter camera control laws.

ok. simple. its her right to stand on her own property with a camera, if she so chooses. its as simple as that. when you start getting into semantics about what is right what is wrong, in regards to the specific situation, you are throwing away your very rights in the process. it really is this simple. she was within her right to do what she chose to do, it wasn't within the law officers right as both a citizen and an upholder of the law to do what he did. if her safety is at risk for her actions the law officer (if capable at the time) can certainly ask her to not be there doing what she is doing. if the law officers safety is at risk by her standing on her own front lawn armed with a camera, then by god everyones safety is at risk and we had better learn to deal with it. she had a right to stand there on her property with a legal (firearm) weapon if she so chose to. its her property. if the law officer didn't feel safe, then he can take his traffic arrest down the street. thats HER property, not the laws, not the states not the governments. HERS. she chose to stand on her property and film the arrest. the law officer stepped out of his bounds as an officer and infringed upon her rights as a US citizen. its as black and white as that.

now I'm no cop hating 'anti-american' or anything else one may assume based on my statement. just a concerned citizen standing up for the rights granted to all of us as US citizens. the rights that law officers such as the one filmed in the video are sworn to uphold and defend.

Maybe this is more understandable for you.
Your trying to rally around our flag in a forum whose
idealogical affiliations lies with products of a foreign corporate enity
and you deseperatly want to sell that ideal to other americans.

your thought process is baffling. how does Pentax/Ricoh/Hoya have anything to do with the thread and more importantly the topic in which is being discussed? especially since the forum itself has no official affiliation with any of these three companies and on top of that was founded by and is under the ownership of US citizens.

back to the topic at hand.

Pentax also has nothing whatsoever to do with this moman's arrest , the subsequent dropping of the charges or the current invetigation into the officers suspected misconduct.

You feel it's OK for the police to stomp on the rights of a person standing on their own property?
I can see how you are confused.

Are you going to explain your comment on ones station in life?
