Top 10 Signs of a Bad Photographer

Top 10 Signs of a Bad Photographer | Pixiq <<== clicky linky for story

#0 -- The "anything goes" mentality -- more crap produced in the last 15 years than the previous 100 years.
#1 -- One who is all bitchy to newbies! If they are good then why should they worry about competition and put others down?
#2 -- Using pop-up flash with telephoto lens in camera green mode. And hold the camera in a very wrong unimaginable way.
#3 -- Polarizer on indoors / shoots a whole roll with lens cap on (RF only, of course).
#4 -- Cutting off feet in a family snapshot.
#5 -- The same person in many of their portfolio shots.
#6 -- Only shoots "polaroids". Naughty photographer!
#7 -- Someone who doesn't know what aperture is or what is does let alone how to change it.
#8 -- When most or all pictures have signs of camera shake.
#9 -- One who says they'll just "fix it" in Lightroom/Photoshop later after a bad exposure. And anyone who uses 'Photoshop' as a verb.
#10 - Focused more on gear than quality of images.

My telltale sign is, using a kit zoom on a bright day without a lens hood.

Meanwhile, do YOU fit in this list? What are your own favorites -- that you're not guilty of yourself, of course?

One needn't be a fetishist to admire toes and ankles and nicely-articulated metatarsals, eh?

I don't agree with #0 at all, but that's OK, to each their own.

You swine! I'm always nice! Bite my assets! (And I'm down at the other end of the list.)

But I digress. Umm, I didn't compile the list, y'know? It's a linky thang, y'know! With a story and, like, other stuff.

Chill out. I wasn't targeting you either, or anyone. The truth is, every photographer started from scratch. It is foolish to insult others as bad photographers just because one is more advance now (or so he/she thought).

I have to disagree with one of those:

#0: If you're passionate about photography, then you want to learn. And to learn is to make mistakes. And lots of them too. (That goes for most skill-building. Not only in photography.) The more mistakes you make, the more you can learn from them. I think a good photographers shoots loads of pics.

Being attracted to any art form such as photography itself is a good quality any human being could possess.
I don't believe in this stuff...........

A useful distinction could be made between a photographer and a camera user.
Anyone who, at least in theory, does not understand aperture let alone how to use it well is not a photographer just a camera user.

Most point and shot folks are camera users not photographers for instance. In fact for most point and shoot users get one precisely because they don't want to be "photographers".

I was at a funeral service recently. The elderly lady in front of me took out her PS. Hit the on button, Framed the shot in LCD, hit the shutter release, hit the off button - done.
She was a camera user not a photographer.

Ditto, it's pretty common usage these days, like using some variant on MacGyver as a verb meaning you're making something out of nothing. I wouldn't be too surprised if they were both in the dictionary at this point as slang phrases...
