Nikon D800

Now rumors are flying that the new Nikon D800 is in town and are ready for a launch with the following impressive specifications:
  1. Smaller and lighter than D700
  2. Resolution: 7360×4912 (36MP)
  3. CF+SD memory card slots
  4. Slightly larger display
  5. Excellent video quality, better than D3s
  6. Video modes: 1080p/30/25/24 and 720p/60/30/25/24
  7. AF identical to D3/D700
  8. I still do not have a date for the official announcement
To those users who plan to upgrade this might be a great machine which may last for up to a decade.
Wonderful

Aparetnly it's got the same pixel desnsity as a 16mp DX crop sensor...so since I know how good the K-5 is, I think that's awesome.

That's what I want to see from Pentax! A sensor that is both usable with the great full frame lenses they have and will make, and the exisitng very usable.

Pentax, give me a reason to buy that great 43mm! Come on!

Oh now that's interesting!
Is there some sort of formula floating around to ccalculate the efficiency factor of sensor peformances? ie. if an APS-C = XX then... a FF using the same technology will produce XX type of thing?

Just use the ratio of the area of the sensors.

(36mm x 24mm) / (24mm x 16mm) = 2.25

36MP / 16 MP = 2.25

36MP / 16 MP = 2.25

So would that mean 2.25x DR and sensitivity performance?

Any chance we can identify a past crop sensor technology that's was extended to FF to establish a performance ratio?

I was just explicitly stating the pixel density equality between the two sensors; not sure how that would relate to performance beyond that. I guess I misread your question before

Hey your not getting off that easy!
Now you must tell me all about your D700?

Is it good?
How does it feel?
How is the IQ?
What lenses do you have?
What does your wife and kids think about it?
etc etc.

Er. maybe you should hit me on Skype

Is it good? Yes, but you've owned one too, so you knew the answer to that

How does it feel? Feels ok, but I prefer the feel of layout of the K-5. A lot of that could be because I'm so used to the K-7/K-5 body, I suppose time will tell.

How is the IQ? IQ is excellent, though I never had a complaint about the IQ of my K-5 and I feel they are certainly on par with one another in terms of IQ.

What lenses do you have? Well, considering I've only had the D700 a couple weeks, quite a few lenses actually So far I've got the following Nikon lenses: 24-120/4VR, 70-200/2.8VRII, 35/2D, 50/1.4D, 85/1.4D, 200/4D micro. I've got three Sigmas as well; the 50/1.4, 150/2.8 macro and 100-300/4. I also picked up the AI-s 50/1.2 this week to try out. How's that for LBA

What does your wife and kids think about it? My wife just wants to know if the pile of boxes will ever go away in my office. I think we all know the answer to that question
