Canon produces 50 millionth EOS SLR, 70 millionth EF lens | The Manila Bulletin Newspaper Online

Yeah, it's a press release, but it's probably accurate. Whatever else may be said of EOS cameras, we must admit that it's been rather successful commercially. Discuss.

1.2 lenses / body ? (Sounds kind of meager especially with all the kit lenses in mind?)

I don't find it all that surprising, especially when I consider the number of third party EF lenses I see on sites like shopgoodwill.com compared to Canon EF lenses.

lots of Canon body sold, but not that much lenses in fact.

The reality is most camera users don't buy many lenses beyond the kit lens.

It would be interesting to see the numbers from other camera+lens makers. Do Pentax, Nikon, Oly tend to sell more lenses per body? How do factory-brand vs 3rd-party lens sales compare? Alas, such numbers may not be available.
