Are Google Glasses the Beginning of the End of Gadgets? (including cameras?)

Are Google Glasses the Beginning of the End of Gadgets? - Forbes

As digital functionality is built into more of what we ordinarily wear and inhabit, how many devices will we discard? If you have camera and phone built into your eyeglasses, will you bother carrying an Optio and iPhone? Will Google Glasses end the world (and Apple) as we know it?

It's more likely the end of glasses as we know them....

They will have to be pretty awesome to get me to wear a set. I hate glasses, jewlery and watches. I am not crazy about clothes, but I appreciate that other people wear them and I return the favor. I'd much rather have a phone in my pocket than wear something.

That's so funny. My Pacific Islander roots agree. I'm using that.

In the bright future, little nano'bots will infest us and weave invisible webs around our heads and bodies, loaded with sensors and interfaces to our nervous systems, such that our very existence will be a deep-immersion artificial-reality construct. Or something like that.

Before then, we'll wear something like Geordie LaForge's multi-spectral visor with built-in wireless linkage to The Cyber-Cloud. Watches, cameras, phones, tablets, media players, handheld games, all those will soon be as obsolete as 8-track tapes and dial-up modems. Clothes probably won't go obsolete until those nano'bots rebuild us so we're all bold and beautiful (and tough) enough to go around starkers. I can hardly wait.

Google Glasses are the first step in this totally immersive environment. Maybe we should invest.

I just spent $$$ on laser eye surgery so unless the glasses give me X-ray vision and the power to jump tall buildings I'm not going back.
